Lip hang/Incomptence still not fixed, advice needed [pics]

#1 Post by ZmaN277 »

Hello,

As some of you may already know, I had a Lefort 1 + BSSO + double sliding genio about 6 months ago, and am still not completely satisfied with the results.

The main issue is my chin, and my general lip competence. My chin is still a little recessed, but I feel the main issue is my lips. The lower one seems to hang out for some reason, and I'm not sure if an implant would fix this, although it would seem to actually "run into" the lower lip.

I've tried googling a variety of things about the soft tissue being too loose under the lower lip, but couldn't find anything substantial.

As you can see, the lips still dont meet perfectly, and my lower one hangs a considerable amount, almost so that, as I said, I feel like a chin implant would literally run into it.

Although, I'm not sure if a chin implant alone would fix the incompetence, hang, or otherwise. I'm curious if anyone knows of any type of soft-tissue filler or some type of procedure that I might need.

Thanks for the help,

Zach

Well your lower jaw still looks deficient, however your oral surgeon probably moved it as much as possible and you had a double sliding genioplasty so I don't think much else can be done. For some people, lip incompetence can never be fully corrected unfortunately.

A chin implant would give you more projection and probably improve your lip closure a little bit but it's hard to say. I've never seen or heard of anyone's lower lip "running into" there chin, even with severe lip hanging.

Zach,

I don't have any sage advice outside of talking to a cosmetic surgeon. At this point, I think you've done all you can from a jaw perspective. I echo the previous post that says you probably moved forward as much as possible without compromising your bite. If anything chin/lip related is necessary, I would honestly trust a cosmetic surgeon over an oral surgeon for that.

I will say this...I can understand and appreciate your concern about it not being totally fixed. However, it seems in both your pictures your face is still pointing downwards at an angle, and I think that makes your chin seem more recessed than it really is. I don't say that to minimize your issue, but it is just an observation I noted.

Keep us posted...I wish you the best.
