Removable bite plate & expander! Anyone else?

#1 Post by sarahintx »

Okay, so I've had my braces for about 4 months, but after the worst trip ever to the Orthodontist the other day, they've decided that I need a removable bite plate. they attempted "building up" bite plates on my molars but the bite is off so much they don't work. I already have an expander and have gotten used to it. It seems like a lot to have in your mouth at once. Has anyone else been in this situation?

Fortunately, I never broke my bite plates (I also had the "built up" ones) so I'm really not sure what to tell you about that. :( HOWEVER, I did want to tell you that your bottom arch is looking incredible!!! :-#) What a transformation in just four months -- way to go!! :jump:  How long are you supposed to be braced?

I haven't heard of both appliances being used, but my first appliance was a combination of the two (with loops behind canines, as my treatment involved expansion across this area as well as the molars). I'd imagine having both appliances seperately would be a bit of a pain in the rear! :(

Thanks TXMommy, I can't believe the change myself!!! My Ortho has even made comments about how well and quickly they've moved. They are telling me 30 months, I'm crossing my fingers that it won't take that long. If it does though it'll be worth it. As happy as I am now, I can't imagine what I'll think once it is all said and done.

chemicalfan, my expander is on my 2nd molars (guess that's what they are called), as these were really the only teeth that were out of alignment on the top. It seems like they should have done like you said and made my expander a combination of the two like you had. I'll find out Monday just how bad it is going to be.
