Can't tolerate braces (doc answers please)

#1 Post by Saysee »

I would love to hear from any ortho docs out there: I seem to be intolerant of the brackets and wires in my mouth. I am one of those sensory perception disorder people. I used a mouth splint for two years for TMJ treatment. When it really started bothering me, I could remove it for a few hours. I can't do that with braces. I've had these braces two months. My ortho says I should be used to them by now.

Are there alternatives? The braces are for a new bite after all the TMJ treatments and surgeries, so what my ortho is doing is unusual.

Any ideas? Maybe some kind of rinse or lozenge that deadens my mouth? Ugh! There's no way I'm going to last two years; I ready to tear them out of my mouth by the end of every day.
Never bite when a growl will do.

There are some cough drops called sucrets that have a drug that numbs your mouth very mildly for about 30 mins. The sensation is kind of the same as when your novacain is wearing off where you have sensation but its just a little numb. Believe the drug is called Dyclonine Hydrochloride and its the only cough drop with it.
