Hey, hey Opera^gal

Thanks for those suggestions! I have a pretty vicious overbite (overjet) and a weak chin. My biggest worry is I may have developed a case of TMJ. I called my Ortho's office yesterday to see if they know anything about the condition but of course I was told to get in contact with my dentist to get a definite diagnosis. I think I'm just suffering from a case of paranoia :). But I think I'll go ahead and get in contact with my dentist office to schedule the extractions but ask them if they could check me for TMJ and if I do have it, see how severe it is and if the braces and extractions alone will solve my jaw trouble. I do have to say, it would be nice if I had a chin :). But that's more of a vanity issue. ;) Anywho, it would be alot easier to talk to the Doc sitting upright with his fingers out of my mouth. Literally. That's another great option too!

Hello PrettyWoman!

Lucky me, I have a lighter load next semester! I'm ECSTATIC about it! LOL!!! We both have a thing about staring at the computer screen :P.

No worries! You had the best of intentions! Around this time I know I can always find something good to eat no matter what! And boy do I!

Your input helps out alot! When I was searching around for Orthodontist's, the first one I ran into mentioned jaw surgery. I thought "HECK NO! You people are crazy! Just give me the friggin extractions!" But now after being paranoid about if my jaw is the cause of my headaches and now the crunching, I'm starting to wonder if that might be a better idea than I thought. But you're right! I should get one more consult to see. The hospital I work at has an orthodontic department and a department that does orthognathic surgery. I think I'd be in good hands here. Of course I didn't get around to the pics last night. Hopefully today, wish me luck!

LOL!!! I had to laugh at the nitrogen gas comment! I just might be able to use some of that too! But then, I might not have job . Patient phone calls can be brutal sometimes :). Anywho, I was thinking it might have an adverse effect on me :). I have a very vivid imagination sometimes...If I get those extractions instead of surgery, I will most certainly get the gas. Just for you :). If only they did sell that stuff in pharmacy's. Nitrogen over Starbucks. It might become a new trend. :P

Yeah, I hope no one tells my ortho either! He must not know!!! Your secret is safe with me PrettyWoman. I gave in when a friend of mine asked why I couldn't eat popcorn and mentioned she ate popcorn when she had braces. I like you was very careful making sure that I didn't bite into a hull and that none of the kernels get stuck in my gums. You're right. Popcorn IS MUCH easier to eat than an eggroll.

I had to name that Ortho something :). He always had on jeans and a flannel shirt with his z-coil shoes  (no offense to those with orthopedic shoes), and he smoked. With those facts in mind I had no other choice . I saw Senorita Man Hands at my appointment. I sat in my chair and prayed she didn't get anywhere near my mouth.

There's a little SMH in all of us . I hope your mouth doesn't hurt too bad from the torture. Did you want her to stop to ask her if she was having a good day? If so, you know exactly who you've dealt with. You know, if she was having a bad day, she just might let you do your own adjustment. Now that...would be a story to tell :).

This long tooth is bugging the heck out of me! I didn't want to wait 6 more months for it to join the rest or the rest to join it so my mouth can look semi-normal again. I have to definitely take pictures to show off the "long tooth". I'm a perfectionist type freak myself. Ever since this metal came on I can't help but look in my mouth. Now since jaw surgery was mentioned I can't help but look at my chin! I've got some real issues.

RECAP: Have a sitdown with current ortho, go to dentist, check out other orthodontists.

Well after a crazy week, here are my pics from my adjustment.

Image

Do you see that long left (your right) incisor? Yikes! I've gotta get that fixed!

Image

Good ol' bite pic. It's rounder, but sticks out a whole lot more. If I didn't smile so much I don't think I'd know what to do seeing I can barely keep my lips over my teeth :P.

Image

Right side. Yikes...again

Image

From the left. Check out my little chin. That is one thing I'd like to enhance and the reason why I thought about surgery. As I'm trying to be rational I noticed, I should just get the friggin extractions. If I have to get surgery at a later date...oh well!

I really don't have an oh well attitude about my mouth. I do gotta choose something soon though!

Hope you all enjoyed!

PS - I had really bad lighting in some of those pics! Please forgive!

Well everyone,

I still haven't scheduled an appointment for the extractions. Why? Well...I think I'm just plain old lazy! Not to mention, I've been trying to put all of my mentals together to make a whole Web Designer. I was given an offer to do logos for someone (it's a side job of course) and I worked on a logo for my crafty mother. That is what I've been doing. And seeing and visiting with my family, SHOPPING, trying to sleeping :), watching some pups, working, cleaning, brushing, forgeting to flossing :). I gotta find a smiley with brown teeth to represent my oral state of being.

If I eventually put my mentals together I might even make two people, let alone just ONE Web Designer.

I have officially made my decision to pull these harmless bicuspids. Poor things :(. I'm gonna miss them and having a filled spot in my mouth for a while . Bloody open holes...HERE I COME.

Maybe I can keep my bicuspids as a souvenir....NOT!!! Besides I don't think they let you do that :? even though they're your own teeth. It's a shame no one believes in the tooth fairy anymore. I couldn't imagine some floating thing trying to grab a hunk of bone from beneath my pillow anyway. Let's face it, I'm not the best sleeper and I'm even worse if I'm waken up out of my sleep...Tooth fairy...If your out there...Don't think about coming to my house. I would be surprised if you were able to leave something under my pillow, but you'll be even more surprised if you accidentally catch a fist in the eye.

Anywho, I'm not feeling that well and I'm a little on the delirious side. I actually fell asleep at work while speaking to one of the patients! She was talking about billing and all I remember is hearing her shout "IS ANYONE THERE?" Boy was I surprised. Of course I had to play it off like I had been listening instead of drooling the whole time . I caught the most pertinent part of the conversation at least. I felt horrible for doing it but when you are under the weather it doesn't matter. Maybe she would feel sorry for me if she knew I had braces :P.

It's not cool sleeping when your under the weather with braces either. I can't breath out of my nose and am relying on my mouth to keep air in my lungs. My mouth feels like it's stuck in that position when I wake up and my brackets are usually digging into my lips. Yeah...No fun at all. That's only part of my worries and I'll spare you all the details.

Welp! I gotta go brush and get to bed so I can get at least two hours of sleep tonight. Wish me luck!

Hey you.
Congrats on making a decision. Less to obsess about.

I think they let you keep your teeth. My girlfriend still has teeth that she had pulled. Theyre in a ring box somewhere in this apartment.

Otherwise your teeth are looking great. Ihave started occasionally using peroxide as part of my cleaning regiment. It seems to have actually helped clean my power chain(the same one i have had on since OCTOBER!)

But glad to see you back and shaking. Cant wait for more progress.

HI GUYS!!!

#112 Post by HeyBuckey! »

Good afternoon Kids!

Thank you all for patiently dealing with me even in states of delirium if you must :).

PrincessPeach - Oooooh! Really? I may have to jump at that idea! I do like to remember my crooked grin smile :). Not to mention I ran across some pics of me when I was 16...hmmm...Cute smile indeed, but I still wish I had got braces a little sooner than 7 years later. You and Alibracket are giving me ideas of where to store my lovely bicuspids when I finally get them out. It will help with those rainy days when I'll feel like my teeth aren't moving anywhere :).

Alibracket - Hey how's it goin?

If you ever decide to propose to your girlfriend...Please, please, PLEASE!!! Make sure you grab the right box

Don't you just love Peroxide? It helped turned my once blue turned green ligs back to a shade of blue green. When people looked at my teeth they thought my ligs were blue so I must've done something right :).

We've got to do something about your Ortho...OCTOBER! Geez! Maybe he gives you a ridiculously strong wire so it'll last a little longer. There should be a rule against that. Really.

I do have an adjustment tomorrow (not trying to rub it in your face or anything :)). Hopefully Camel Cowboy will continue to remain MIA because they are going to pop a few brackets off tomorrow to re-align my smile. I will definitely post pics even if it turns out to be 2 weeks after the appointment :). I'm a lazy online book reading weirdo at work...

Bekah - I appreciate the info! I think I will be really happy with my extractions when I get them. I'm still kind of waivering to the surgery side because low and behold! On my right side where my jaw and face meet I've been having some strange disturbance. The skin is tight and it aches...Hmmm...That isn't normal but I think my body is trying to trick itself into believing it needs the surgery :)

I'll more than likely get the extractions but I'll let you all know how tomorrow's appointment goes!!!

Thank you all for the comments!

Againbrace

Thanks a bunch! I was shocked when I saw how far my teeth have come in such a short period of time. I couldn't be happier with what I'm seeing. I think I'm gonna do a comparison every four months just for the heck of it! :)

Emms

Thank you very much too! I'm am very pleased with it and as of today, I do NOT regret getting braces.

As a side note, I've got an official day for my extractions. Hold on to your seats...Thursday, February 4th, 2010 is the day 5pm MST is the hour. I'll be showing up early because I'll go directly from work. I'm extremely excited and nervous all at once. I told them to drug me up but they'll only numb my mouth really good :(. I was looking forward to that gas too! :) Oh well!!! Shoot! I guess as long as I don't feel it like they say, I'll be just fine. Thank you all for your support up to this very moment.

Happy teeth movement!

Adventures in Metal!!! Plus! Extractions!!!

#116 Post by HeyBuckey! »

Well everyone,

Today, is the BIG day!!! I get my extractions at 5 pm MST. I'm not shaking yet, just delightfully nervous :). For once in my whole journey I'm nervous about something. I even looked forward to my adjustments and the pain associated with it! Oh well!!! I guess I'm bound to lose some teeth eventually if old age doesn't do it for me .

I'm signing off now, I still have almost too much work to do and food to eat in preparation of my big debut!

Wish me luck that I don't start shaking in my lil boots :).

Yay! It's a week and a five days past my 4th month anniversary for my uppers! What a coincidence :?

Adventures In Metal!!! EXTRACTION STYLE :)

#117 Post by HeyBuckey! »

Ola ladies and gents!

I'm not as perky as my introduction says that I am...I'm pretty sleepy in spite of the fabulous night of sleep I received last night. This is a recap of the events that occured yesterday for my BIG appointment.

4:45 I check in, begin to sweat just a little, and take my seat
4:55 I realize I left my extraction request at home  Oh Crap!
4:59 I walk to the receptionist and begin asking what I should do if...
5:00 I'm called back before the words leave my mouth :(
5:01 The assistant asks me an important question "I have an important question. Do you have the paper you received from your Orthodontist stating which teeth we are supposed to pull?" Oh Crap again!
I respond: "I left it at home (insert sad puppy eye face here), but the teeth to pull are the ones without the brackets."
5:02 The assitant responds "Uh oh, come with me." By this time I'm sweating a little more.
5:05 A call was made to my Ortho's office who's a part of the chain my dentist works at. They were going to fax the paper work and the wait is on!
5:10 All this excitement makes me need to tinkle before I get my teeth pulled. Not to mention I'm sweating and shaking now.
5:15 A doc comes over and says they don't have my extraction request on file, AND I was supposed to receive one from the doc. :? WHAT?!?! Then she asks me if I want to speak with them. You dawg gone skippy I do!
5:17 After some yelling and telling the lady at my Ortho's office that Camel Cowboy didn't make a copy of my extraction request and having them grill me everytime I went in to get the stupid teeth pulled she tells me to go over too their office to get ANOTHER extraction request. :x WHAT?! I'm on public transport but it's up the street and I might be able to do it. I get off the phone. One of the receptionists is trying to reschedule my appointment  What?! I told her I really want to get this done and over with today so...She gets my doctor 8)
5:20 My doc looks in my mouth and sees the teeth that are to be removed and...HE OKAYS ME! YES!!!!!!!! Oh wow! This is really going to happen at this point. So I pay for my teeth and am sent back to the room but a patient is in the chair "HURRAY!" By this point, I just want to get this over. I was sweating, frustrated, nervous, and I had a headache at this point.
5:23 I sit back down in the payment area. My bladder was doing some overtime because I had to tinkle AGAIN!
5:27 As soon as I step out of the restroom the assistants tell me to grab my stuff because they have a spot saved for me. I'm now officially scared, sweating profusely and shaking.
5:31 Some other doctor got my numbing meds administered
5:33 My doc check the site again to see which teeth to pull again and to check out how numb I am. I ask "Am ah shupposh tah feehl da woof uh mah mouf?" He says no and says "I'm gonna give you something else on top of what we just gave you."
5:35 He pulls out some weird looking device and sticks it on the inner part of my mouth. I didn't feel much until he went to the right side where it burned a little.
5:37 The doc proceeds to yank on my teeth, not a good deal. I told him it didn't feel too hot and he numbed it some more. It must've been in their pretty good because he got an assistant and did a little drilling.
5:40 The doc knows I'm really numb now and did a little loosening on each side.
5:45 After some more pressurized yanking and my doc saying "You're too calm." I guess I should've panicked a little more  then...Surprise! Number 12 comes out. I say "Was that it?" Wondering why it hurt more for him to wiggle it than to dislodge it.
5:47 Surprise again! Number 5 popped right on out.

After the run down on what to do from the assitant I grab my things and head out to the waiting room. I was contemplating if I should call someone to get me until I walked out into the waiting room. Geez! Everyone's head turned like I had called them individually. The worst part is I couldn't feel my upper lip and thought my upper lip may have resembled The Joker's from the Batman Movie that was made in the 90's. Was that Jack Nicholson who did that one? I think so...Anywho. This adorable young one kept staring at me. I wouldn't have felt so bad if I could give her a real smile. Instead I was only able to make my eyes and bottom lip smile. That must've looked ridiculously special :). I decided to catch the public transport home and waited outside on the information line for about 9 mins until the bus came. My fingers were froze and my face wouldn't move in certain spots. I was NOT a happy camper. Not to mention I feared drooling. I tried my very best not to look at anyone and when I got off the bus I covered my face with a scarf (great idea!) I went to the store to get some ibuprofen for when the drugs wore off and some blistex because it was a dollar and headed home. I get home cleaned and tried to take the gauze out to put some clean gauze in. I thought my gums bled alot with my flossing incident. Boy was I wrong! My dentist's office calls it oozing I call it I need 911 before I bleed to death. I shoved some more gauze in the gaping hole on each side and left it there the whole night while I slept.

In spite of some very minor discomfort and the strange way missing teeth feel, I made it out just fine. Now if only the holes would close at the speed of light...I'm gonna try not to smile for weeks! That's all for today's incredibly long post!

Happy 4th Month Lower Row!!!

I hope you've had a nice long exhale now that *that* is over and done with...all the fear and dread and it reads like it went without much of a hitch (paperwork not withstanding). Hope you are feeling better and that not only do the holes heal, but the teeth moving into those spots, do so with ease and speed! Abracadabra--overjet be gone! Poof! (did it work yet?)

Hi Opera^Gal!

I have to tell you, I am so excited you stopped by. I had a ton of anxiety before going to that appointment and I could only think to write. I am doing much better since Thursday and I plan on posting an entry about my post-"ORAL" surgery, as the package of gauze stated, momentarily. I do have to say I am really relieved that the extractions are OVER!!! Now I can't get on with the rest of my treatment since it depended on getting these teeth pulled. It was fairly quick and simple once I let the docs do there job :).

Darn it! It didn't work yet! Maybe it needs a little assistance :). My next Ortho Appt is next Wednesday. I'll let you know how that overjet is looking :).

Until Next Time!!!

Hi All!

It's been 4 days since my extractions. In my last Adventure I stated everything that happened during my appointment. The real comedy came afterwards. Starting with my phone call to bus information. May I say my upper lip was experiencing temporary paralysis because of those fab miracle working drugs they use. I waited on hold for 9 minutes before someone answered and to make it worse while waiting I began drooling while I anxiously paced the sidewalk practicing how I was gonna get the point across clearly with as little bit of slurring as I could. Thankfully the Operator answered and as I was talking to her the bus pulls up. I lucked out and got a seat right up front where I wouldn't have to face anyone with my Joker like dispositon. My upper lip felt monstrously large and when the first bus was coming to my stop I wanted to see if the driver would let me off at the corner since a) it was cold and dark and b)I didn't feel like crossing that street to get to the other side with a paralyzed lip. Well the driver wouldn't let me off. I had to stand on a corner and freeze for 2 mins when he finally stopped. When I got off the bus I had the genius idea of putting my scarf over my face to hide my smirk. When I got to the next bus stop I had 18 mins until the next bus came so I went to get my meds to maintain a drugged state :). I grabbed what I needed and went to stand in line. I didn't take my scarf off the whole time I was in there hoping my lip would come back to life...well...it didn't. I stood between two registers because the one on the right seem to be going really fast and the on the left was going painfully slow. There was a lady behind me who couldn't tell that I was waiting for the next available cashier so she ransacked her buggy into the cashier to my right. After the slow cashier rang up the couple before me with a strange selection of items (looked kind of like cat food and slippers) and it was my turn to be rang up. Rollerderby buggy lady then noticed I only had two small items in my hands and apologized for cutting me off. I said it was ok and proceeded to be checked out. I walk out the store with my scarf still intact although I kept having to pull it up to mask my lip, and walked back to the bus stop just in time to freeze some more. My lip wasn't any less paralyzed than before I left the office. If anything it was worse.

I get on the bus and what is sitting on one of the front seats? Someone cute. Very cute. I buried my face into my scarf even further and tried to shake off the idea that he may have been staring at me. As soon as that bus stopped, I hopped off and made a b-line because I thought the bus was going to leave, leaving me stranded with a cold upper lip that wouldn't move even if it had to. To my surprise, the driver stepped away from the bus for a sec so I arrived just in time for him to leave. I ended up talking with this lady who thought she was going to be stranded as well. Or should I say she talked to me? I couldn't say much but to make much more entertaining, I didn't understand a thing she was saying either . She had a very thick accent and was saying something about public transportation leaving the passengers. I think. Anywho, she gets off the bus and a few stops later I get off the bus and begin my five minute walk home.

When I arrive, I put my things down and contemplate taking that nasty gauze out of my mouth and checking out my new wounds but I held off for a few minutes because I had some cleaning to do. Afterwards my sister decided she wanted to go to Sonic's for a burger. Then my jealousy set in. I changed my gauze before we left and of course my sister comes over to see what my new holes look like. I take the gauze out and it immediately started "oozing" as my package says and my sisters all like "LET ME SEE! LET ME SEE! Let me see!" I show her my now bleeding mouth and what does she say? "Ugggghhhh!" I didn't want to bleed to death so I tried to turn away and she insisted on looking at my mouth! Awkward...We pack up and head to Sonic's and the food smells so good. I had never smelled anything so heavenly that I couldn't eat :(. I was ready to cry at this point not to mention I was experiencing discomfort and wanted to lay down. I eventually got to bed and woke up feeling refreshed until about 9:30 in the morning when the pain started, I was more irritable than in pain because I got drowsy shortly after my face started feeling funny. I popped a couple of ibuprofen and called it a day. That night I had soup and a large chunk of softened but not soft enough carrot got caught in my empty space on the right. OUCH!!!!!!!!!

I even got called Snaggle Tooth all weekend. Lucky me!

As you all know I have a problem "Not eating". Friday I took it kind of easy and enjoyed soup all day (I had crackers later on that night too ). By time Saturday Night came I was feed up. After hanging out with some friends I went to Sonics and successfully at a hamburger. I was so excited. Superbowl Sunday (GO SAINTS!!!) I had pizza, chicken wings and chips which was not a good idea seeing a piece of chip got caught in my empty hole on the right. Imagine howling in pain when there is a room full of people and a commercial going on.

No one understands the phenomenon of getting your teeth pulled.
