Any Good Orthodontists in Vancouver BC or Seattle?
Hey guys,
I'm planning to get braces but am trying to find a good orthodontist in Vancouver, BC (canada). Does anyone have any recommendations? There's another subject in regards to the same thing but it mainly mentioned Dr. Suzuki and Dr. Douglas. I've been to both of them but have decided not to go to either. One being that Dr. Douglas said treatment would take 2 years and would only see me once every 8 - 12 weeks. I suspect it would take longer due to the fact that I'd only see him once in a blue moon, especially considering my teeth aren't that bad and two other ortho's said it would only take a year. I've decided against Dr. Suzuki as well, I didn't get a good feeling from him.
I would much appreciate your answers if any of you live around the area. As well if you live in Seattle and know of an excellent orthodontist I wouldn't mind going there as I go frequently to shop anyways.

I don't know where you are in Vancouver, I am on the North Shore and I go to Dr. Hicks in West Van (Marine and 14th).........great office, great doctor, he was recommended by my dentist, we were new to the area, so I just went to him...love him!!
And it seems that all of my friends kids go to him, and many of my friends when they were kids went to his dad.....they seem to be well known and respected on the north shore! good luck!!

$6250--seemed to be about right for the North Shore from what I hear????
I liked him from the start, he took time with me, answered all my questions, and sees me every visit (about 6 weeks apart).....I've gone in for lig changes and had questions that he's come over to answer for me...overall, I have really liked him and his staff! Payment plan--I paid $1050 up front when they put the braces on, and $200 after that.....they are pretty easy going about it--my bill drops on the 7th of the month and if I am in on the 6th, they say I only owe $200, I tell them I think it's 2months ($400)--she'll say, no your bill doesn't drop the this month until tomorrow, so just pay me 200--so I pay when ever I go in , not necessarily on a monthly basis..so they are pretty cool about it!

Ortho in Vancouver
Dr Brent Douglas At Ocean Orthodontics in Vancouver was an amazing ortho (I had to move away a few months ago and boy do I miss it there!).
He has a bright, sunny, high-tech office and he really knows what he's doing. The assistants are great and there's a view of False Creek to boot.
They are definitely worth a shout…as I recall it was a free consultation. My treatment cost (if I hadn't moved) was about $7000 (I got Damons which are more expensive) but they let me make a down payment and then do monthly installments which was very reasonable.
Hope that helps!

P.S.
Gah, I need to pay attention… then I would have seen that you'd already seen Dr Douglas. *is sheepish*
Strange that Dr. D said visits would be every 8-12 weeks, as I always saw him at minimum every 4-6 weeks, but then again it might depend on individual treatment. 2 years sounds about average for orthodontic treatment of any kind.
That being said, I say go with your gut and pick whoever makes you feel most comfortable. The ortho I saw when I moved back here to Calgary was atrocious and I never went back again, even though others had said he was good.

I studied with and was roommates with Dr. Brian Hong who is at Oak Ridges. Super smart and conscientious guy. May not have the modern office of some of the other orthos around, but definitely going to get some great work and attention.
If you're willing to travel to Vancouver Island, I've seen some excellent results from Dr. Paul Helpard from Shoreline Orthodontics.
Good luck in your search!

Hi there,
It was MY post you were reading in the past. I mentioned Drs. Douglas and Suzuki. You may be right on the feeling you got from Dr. Suzuki. While I still think he's competent, he is a very no nonsense and abrupt ortho. I am still happy that I picked him, but you need to check with me in a few months as we sail past my original projected debracing date!!! The shortest time I was quoted, 18 months, comes up in about... one month. I haven't been told anything about when we're going to finish, and that is part of the problem with Dr. Suzuki. It's almost information on a need to know basis. If you ask the question, he will probably answer it, but he will not volunteer much. Of course any patient would be anxious to know how much longer they'll have to put up with braces.
If you want to see your ortho often, you should avoid Damons. Traditional braces require more appointments, or so the literature says.
If you decide to go with conventional ligatures, try the UBC Clinic. I was quoted $4500. Only problem is that they use you to teach others. There was an ortho I would NOT recommend as well... some ortho at 41st/Granville. I don't remember his name, so long ago, but he suggested drilling screws into my bone AND removing two teeth, and none of the other suggested this.
Good luck on your journey.
