Hey guys!
Im an adult who can't decide between damon self-litigating braces or regular ones. Anyways, looking through the internet I saw on damon's website that it said damon braces give you a "bracelift". That is, enhanced facial features, less dark corners of your mouth, improved arch, and wider smile.
Has anyone had this happen to them with damon braces? Can regular braces improve the same things, or can only damon braces do this?
I'd really like a wider smile, a smile that shoes more teeth, but was wondering if regular braces could do this as well.

Here is what it all boils down to, DO NOT chose treatment based solely on what type of brackets you are going to get. Go to several Ortho consults and explain to him/her what it is that you would like to achieve. The Ortho will come up with a plan to get you there. The brackets are just the vehicle for the wires to do the work.
In short, don't get hung up on the type of brackets that are used, make your choice on the Orthodontist who will be doing the work. Also remember that you were looking at the companies web site that is designed to make you want these and no others by promising things that are not accomplished by the brackets themselves, but by the experiance of the clinician.

Can be done with any type of braces.
the dark corner at the mouth thing is usually caused by a deep bite and any type of ortho tx addreses that regardless of braces type.

Thanks for replying drrick, very helpful
jjs34748: I've already consulted with 5 different orthodontists but can't decide between two. The difference is that one uses damon and one does not. I was simply weighing my options so if you didn't have an answer to my question you can keep your comments to yourself.

No need to get short with people. jjs34748 has a good point--it really isn't about the brackets, and if that's the only difference between them, there's not really any point in asking your question. There is no advantage of Damons over regular, except perhaps fancy marketing (and a few hundred more dollars, if that floats your boat). So pick which ever ortho you're most comfortable with or which offers you a better deal, has a cleaner office/nicer staff, and try not to snap at people for attempting to answer the question you asked, even if it wasn't to your satisfaction.
No offense was intended in my answer. I can understand seeing 5 different Orthos, but to make a final decission based solely on the type of bracket used, I think is making an uninformed decission.ilovetimhortons wrote:Thanks for replying drrick, very helpful

Bottom line is, who makes you feel they are better able to work with the brackets they use.
All I am saying is ,just don't give in to the hype of a companies web site.
Does the Ortho that uses the Damons talk them up with the same hype that is on the companies web site? If he does and is just trying to sell them to you based on the claims they make, I might think twice about this Ortho. If he/she is not trying to sell them based on the same claims, then go for them if you are more comfortable with that treatment plan. If Damons can get what you want done and they may be able to let you have fewer appointments or even possable shorter treatment, go for it.
I personally do have self ligating Speed System brackets and feel very comfortable with them. My Ortho never once tryed to sell me on them with any hype of reduced treatment time. I was very comfortable with him and his staff, and at that point in time did not care what bracket was used as long as what I want done gets accomplished.

Sorry, just wanted to add in that I am not in any way saying that ilovetimhortons is deciding solely on the type of brackets, just stating my feelings.
You did not mention in your first post that you had already had 5 consults, so I misnderstood your position.
Really the only answer is who you ultimitly feel the most comfortable with. Like Dr Rick said any of the brackets help to achieve your final outcome.
I wish you the best of luck in your treatment and hope you get as good or a better outcome than you are looking for.
