Had my treatment plan appt today. I took my partner with me since she is interested in braces also. He dropped the bomb on me....I have to have a tooth pulled...in the front of my mouth! I was not a happy camper with that bit of news. I already had an appt with my dentist to have my teeth cleaned on 2/15 so the assist called to see if I could have my tooth extracted that day too, yep! So I'm going to have to go to work & school with this gaping hole in the front of my mouth. & my anniversay is next week. We'll just have to put off the celebration but I'm still expecting a nice gift My brace day is 3/18 & I am excited about that! See u guys later. I'll be the 34 yr old snaggapuss!

Thanks Chelsea, I was hoping I didn't have to have any pulled since I have enough missing already but I guess just not in the right spot. I forgot to mention that I have an appt 3/11 for the dreaded spacers!!! I was talking to the assist about them & she was saying "Theyre not that bad, just feels like food stuck in your teeth." uh-huh. & then she broke down & said she cried when she had them. Definitely have to remember to ask for a stronger painkiller than the normal over the counter stuff!
Chelsea, hope u have good news the 22nd. We don't have too much longer.

I also had to have a tooth extracted, one of the front teeth on my lower jaw. I felt really bad the first week or so, so much so that I actually avoided speaking to people. But I sort of got used to it by now. And I know that with my new braces, the gap will gradually disappear and my teeth will be straight for the first time in my life. So I try to focus on the end result.
Good luck with your braces journey

Thanks Ana, mine will also be on my lower jaw & yes I'm sure I will be avoiding talking to people too. I'm just gonna try to stay focused on why I'm walking around with a missing tooth in the front of my mouth. What's ironic is that I've never covered my mouth while talking or laughing but I'm sure I will now. I pray the time passes quickly & that my teachers don't call on me to participate in discussions. I think I'll just explain beforehand in an email why my classroom participation may drop for a while. Still glad to be just a little closer to having a great smile.

Hi cmone
Sorry to hear that your preparation has gotten a little more involved than expected. I seem to read about that here every so often...or sometimes the ortho might order extractions (w/ braces already on) in the middle of treatment. I think by the time your ortho's done, you'll never miss the missing tooth . Good luck with the spacers, by the way.

Thanks Ken & Mikesmile for the words of encouragement. I'm hoping the gap will close quickly but I know I'll have to have patience & trust that my ortho knows what he's doing.
My back teeth are very tight so I cannot imagine what the spacers will be like but at least they will only be in for one week (hopefully!).
My extraction appt time for tomorrow is 3pm so I think I'm going to take tomorrow night off. I don't think I will feel like dealing with my client or that my will client will want to deal with me after having my perfectly healthy tooth yanked out!
Hope everyone has a great Valentine's Day!

Got my teeth cleaned & my beloved tooth pulled yesterday. The dentist that pulled it looked very young, like some of the kids I go to school with. He did excellent job but he started off by telling me that sometimes the tooth breaks & if that happened he'd have to send me next door to the oral surgeon to get the rest of the tooth & the root out...um ok?! That statement made me officially nervous & sweaty! The tooth came out with no problem. Now I'm waiting on 3/11 for my spacers.

Thanks Ken for the tip. I will be sure to reduce the size next go 'round.
@ Kristyn & Ana... This hole feels huge! I had mandatory training for my job today...after having worked all night, going straight to school this am & then coming home for a 3hr nap. Anyway training lasted 5 hours & when I left I was starving. I went to a favorite Japanese restaurant & the food & service was great. I was having a nice conversation with the cook when I felt a piece of rice dancing around in my gap... I kindly asked for a take-out box & the ticket! I don't know how I'll get used to this because I love to smile & run my mouth! Here's hoping for a better tomorrow!
