20 yrs old::::Soon to be braced!!!-pics
Hey everyone!
I am 20 years old and will be getting braced for the first time next week, on March 31st. I decided to get a consultation after my younger brother got his braces completely for free under my mother's insurance (I'm still living at home) and especially because he only had them on for 8 months total with great results. On top of that my boyfriend whos 24, just paid 6000 for invisalign which makes free metal braces look that much better!
My first consultation revealed that my case is more complicated than I initially thought. I have moderate crowding and was told I had the option to have extractions or IPR. I opted to have the IPR but depending on how things go I may still need extractions down the line. I also have a slight midline issue which means I will have to wear rubber bands at some point and finally I have a tounge thrusting issue and a slight lisp. Needless to say I think I will be braced longer than my brother was because he merely had gaps. The irony is I always thought I had better teeth than him! Hahaha.
At this point I'm more anxious to get the ball rolling then nervous since I expected to be braced immediately like my brother was. I've been wearing 8 spacers for the last week and a half which were excruciating at first but have become little more than a nuisance at this point. Here a pic.
I'm really excited to get this journey started!
wooho!! congrats. your teeth don't even look bad. keep us posted on your journey!

Getting the braces on was not so bad at all. A bit uncomfortable with those cheek seperaters in for an hour and a half and an ortho who insisted on continuouslly asking questions that I (obviouslly) couldnt answer the entire time. I had little pain the first day but the next day was pretty hard physically and mentally as I felt super self concious. I work with children so immediately one of my second graders blurted "You have braces now?! " Overall, the reactions werent as dramatic as that second graders' and some of my coworkers didnt even seem to notice or atleast didnt think it was important enough to comment on. As far as eating goes I've been eating mostly pasta, pudding, and apple sauce. 3 days in and I'm way more used to this than I thought I would be by now and I even feel kinda cute in my braces. And I swear I can see some movement already
