Well, yesterday I went to the orthodontist and they took my spacers out...ahhh, did that feel good! It was weird cos I could feel the space between the teeth, and I've never had that before, my teeth had always been so TIGHT together. Spent the next half hour fitting bands on until we found the ones that fit. The lower ones were cemented in place, but the uppers were taken out and an impression made of my palate/upper teeth...the upper bands will become part of the expander and put in in 2 weeks. So...NEW SPACERS ON TOP, ARGH! They totally don't hurt, but they're just annoying to have in at this point...so on my tops, by the time I get braces I will have had spacers for a month...bloody annoying!

And for the lower bands? The brackets are not bothering me one bit, but the hooks on the inside? Bloody hell, they're slicing up my tongue! The wax they gave me has been a godsend, except when I eat and the food mixes with the wax to make this nasty paste, so I only wax when I"m not going to be eating for a long time. Also every time I eat now, I feel like I HAVE to brush because it just feels so gross...

Anyway, that's my update from yesterday...13 more days until braces and expander go on, then surgery shortly thereafter (date TBD)

I know no one is reading this or gives a crap, I'm just keeping this little journal for myself, so indulge me...

I've found that my tongue is toughening up and I don't use the wax as much anymore...in fact, not at all the last day. There is still a little irritation but I know eventually I'll have to get used to it, so might as well tough it out. Same with the brackets on my inner cheeks. Not too bad.

Yep, 8 more days. These molar bands are not bad now...after the 4th day my tongue toughened up so I don't even use wax and they don't bother me. Check back when I get braced, haha

I hope to hear from the OS to schedule my SARPE surgery also...the ortho wants that done as soon as I can have it done after brace day (just waiting on insurance approval)

Yep, I got them on (with the expander) yesterday morning, it went well, took about 90 minutes, probably the same procedure you all had to get them on. I got silver ligatures so they are very unobtrusive. I talk funny because of the expander but not too bad.

I didn't have any pain or soreness until last night...today is another story but I'm coping, eating soft foods, drinking lots of water. The inside of my lips/cheeks are all shredded but I'm toughing it out to get my mouth used to them quickly (I did the same thing with my molar bands two weeks ago). I only have lighter-gauge wire on because the ortho doesn't want to do the major moving of my teeth until after my SARPE operation, so I can only imagine what THAT will feel like.

So all in all, not too bad!

Well I'm not going to put any pics up...don't feel comfortable doing that. But I can update that the inside of my mouth feels like raw hamburger, all shredded and hurting. But I'm toughing it out so I can get used to it.

So here's a question I have because I'm curious...I plan on asking my orthodontist at tomorrow's appointment but I'll ask here to see if anyone knows the answer. On the bottom I have two teeth that have no brackets and are not wired (the pre-molars) and on top my back molars are the same. Why are some teeth "skipped" as far as brackets/wiring? Will these be wired in the future?

Yes they will be. If not then maybe your plan is different. If they ever gave you a summary of your treatment it should say full set or something. If you take a look at my photos i only have 4 teeth on top and 4 on bottom braces. This is to make room for some of the teeth that are in weird positions to be bracketed and to also created some room for my impacted canine. its all about how crooked and tight your teeth were. Youll get them braced soon!

Braced- March 30th 2010.

Estimated time- 18-21 months with cooperation from impacted canine.

I'm soooo frustrated...I called my OS office AGAIN to find out when my SARPE is going to be, and for the 3rd time in as many weeks, they told me the OS needs to sign ONE PIECE OF PAPER to send to the hospital and then they'll schedule it...it's been almost 6 weeks since my consult!

Frustrating!

Are you in a position where you could facilitate? Like, get the paper from the OS, bring to hospital? Probably totally unecessary, but at least you'd know it was done. Or call the hospital for a "progress check" to at least make sure they're on the same page?

Believe me, I know how you feel with the delays and red tape. Hope things get straightened out soon!
