ohhh I sympathise - i've also become a bit obsessed by avoiding ill people in the run up to surgery, but they're suddenly everywhere with hacking great coughs and touching everything around them. Don't feel guilty about taking care of yourself right now, staying healthy for surgery is the no1 priority - your sis might have a certain immunity to colds that you may not have.
Hope you feel better soon

Cvn - good luck tomorrow. We will be thinking of you!!! Hope I see you back here before I go in on Friday, but it's likely that I won't.
As for me - I'm not feeling too bad. Am drinking hot lemon tea with honey throughout the day. Doing the saline nasal rinses too. My chest feels a bit scratchy, but not congested and I can breathe clearly. Sinuses are not stuffed up. Just feel a bit tired. So I guess I'll see how things go at my splint fitting tomorrow afternoon.
Everyone keep their fingers crossed that Friday still goes as planned for me.

I hope so too. My job is not easy to arrange this kind of thing around. You would not believe what a nightmare it was to find someone to cover for me for one of the weeks that I'll be off as I have several time sensitive and hard deadlines each month that can't be missed. All of us have the same deadlines so loading someone up with my work just makes it harder for that person. If this gets re-scheduled, and my time off is at a different time of the month - with a different kind of deadline, I'll have to re-train someone again. Add to that that at right now our company is in the process of being sold (which happens often in the oil and gas industry) - it means that the new company may want to keep me or may not. So, I might have new bosses in a few weeks or I might be out of a job and looking.
So, I really need to have this done on Friday so I can put it behind me.

Thanks! I'm nervous - I got some doom and gloom about my situation from the surgeons, but it's the best chance I have to be normal and I've been diligent about my meds and such, so I'm trying to think positively.
Took this yesterday. What a friggin mess and a half. I can't really wait to see the contrast between this one and the after surgery one

Hi cvn, surgeons always have to tell you the worst case scenario, so you're doing the right thing focusing on positivity. Not long to go now, you'll be over the worst in no time!
Audra - hope you're hanging in there with the nerves. I'm staying on top of them for the moment, but suspect there's a huge well of nerves and fear building up inside that will eventually come pouring forth in some kind of tear-filled meltdown. Hope it's not when they're wheeling me down to the theatre!

cvn - I'm hoping everything goes perfect for you today. Good luck.
descantus - it's funny - this worrying about the cold has not allowed much room for the nerves to kick in. I'm sure tomorrow will be an entirely different story though. Usually a day before surgery is when I start to freak out, and then the "day of" I'm usually OK.

Hey everyone.
So I must have a killer immune system because I'm feeling much better. Most of the time when I get sick it doesn't last more than a few days, and this was no exception, thankfully.
I had my splint fitting this afternoon and it fit perfectly. I'll wear it for 2-4 weeks. Movement will be top jaw 6mm forward and down 1mm; bottom jaw back 2mm and rotated 2mm because apparently it is off.
He said to expect to be in the hospital until Monday, but I may go home Sunday.
I get my surgery time tomorrow afternoon when I call the hospital. The surgeon said I'm the only one he has that day. He said time would probably be 8:40 a.m. and would take maybe around 5 hours, maybe less and recovery around 3 hours. He said he'd see me and my hubby later that night around 7pm
So, that's all I got for now. I get my surgical hooks tomorrow morning at 9:30.
CVN - hope everything went well and you are doing OK.
