My BraceAdventure!

#1 Post by cosmo »

After days of postponing I have decided to create a Brace Blog. I am getting Braced April 23, This friday. I was really nervous at first but after seeing everyones progress I am thinking they will just look really crooked with the wires for the first month or two. I am getting my top braces first and they will be clear ceramic. They are not going to extract and teeth (which make me happy) I do have crowding so we shall see how they make room for my tooth that sticks out. When I get home today I will finally upload some before pics. I am anxious to get this going. My girlfriend's are taking me to have buffalo wings today. I am going to miss biting into them. I am 25 and getting braces at this point in time gets me nervous  This is going to be an interesting journey but I am glad I am not in this alone. I will have to have them on for 18-24 months My ortho said I will have them off most likely before the 24 months and I really hoping that happens. :pinkbraces:

check back when i have pics later on today:)

I have no problem with rice, it gets stuck, but i have a RediBreeze (like the waterpik) and the rice comes right out. Although if your gums are cut up, the soy sauce burns.

Here is a pic of me in my braces the first day.
Image

I am on my third day now and let me just say %ER%^$^%^$%#$ HOly mother of crap, what did I get into to. The first day was great no real pain i guess the aleeve worked but the next day OMG the pressure. When ever my top teeth hit my bottom it hurts :( my cheeks are getting hurt too.I finally gave in to wax yesterday and AHHHH! it felt so good but the inside of cheeks are still like, "wtf did u do to me?"

Oddly enough I feel that my sloth tooth is coming down a bit because i can smile differently then the day that I got them,,,, oh and F**** flossing!!!
I have been able to sustain the pain but wow, it sucks!!! The first night floss got stuck I couldn't pull it out and way and then it started tearing my mom had to get some scissors and snip that baby off it was horrible.

It seem like after getting my braces all I want to do is eat.... and then when I do I realize I can't chew so while my family has chicken, or something yummy i eat cambell's soup, and tons pudding/yogurt,

WHEN WILL THE PAIN GO AWAY, WHEN WILL I BE NORMAL???
and this is only their lightest wire, how on earth will I deal with what's to come? I am going to start mouth washing with warm and sat water too because of my poor cheeks.

please take this pain that my cheeks have away!!!!!!!!!

If you are like me, your top rightside tooth will be the one that needs waxed and bothers you for a bit. I have one on my lower right that is like that. And I also have the clear braces. As far as flossing, it will get better. I buy those threaders that have the stiff tips at the end. They have them at Wal Mart. If you are just using the floss threaders they usually give you though, I found when I used those that if you tie the floss to the threader, that it was quicker. After a few weeks you can cut time off of flossing.

As far as pain and chewing, it gets better. For me, it was about 2 weeks. I've had them on for 6 weeks now and I can eat normal food. Burgers, subs, etc etc. Though with those 2, I have to tear them up and eat them since I cant use my front teeth to bite into them. The cheek pain does subside. Either that, or you just don't notice it/become used to it. I do notice that my brackets don't feel as sharp as they first did.

It'll get better! :D

Well, that's a relief I feel like wow, this is going to be the way I feel forever, in pain. I also have a bottom tooth that is sticking out just like my right one. So, I am not looking forward to getting my bottom braces in two weeks. :(

You made me feel so much better just hearing subs, and burgers. :) Are you still on the light wire? We will be on this journey together. I hope they are off before 24 months. I just put wax to let my cheek heal she took quite a beating. Luckily sleeping on my side isn't a problem :) I should have more pics to come.

I had my first adjustment Friday. They went from a .013 to .014(a size bigger). The only sore teeth after the adjustment was my front teeth but they have been sore for a while. Not very painful, just sore. And thats with a bigger wire.

I will say that with our clear braces, they seem to be harder for them to open to change the wires. The most painful part of the adjustment was them opening up the brackets to change wires. Since the teeth are already sore from moving, they have to kind of pry it seemed and it was kind of painful. On a 1-10, probably a 6. So it hurt but it wasn't unbearable pain or anything. You may not have any issues, since everyones mouth is different. Just my experience. I like to be honest and not sugar coat things lol.

:D You will learn you can eat alot of things, if you just tear them up/cut them up.

As far as eating, I too love eating. I'm 5'10 140 pounds but I eat like I'm 340 pounds lol. Now, I find I dont snack as much because it comes down to, do I want to eat whatever it is that Im going to eat, enough to have to scrub out my mouth afterwards? lol

Also, if you find yourself talking funny, that will go away. I found I lisp'ed for the first few days because I was afraid to move my mouth certain ways because I didn't want to cut myself up more. That will go away.

Lastly, if you are self conscious about the braces, that too will go away. I'll show them when I smile now.
