It will get better. I found just a few things I couldn't eat with braces. Banana peppers and the like were a no go. Corn on the cob and fresh uncut apples. Beyond that, grin and bear it and go for it.

Thanks Ken and opralgal....great advise..and in such a timely matter. I was all prepared with my wax...and gum...but...alas, my "little teenage" boy decided to um..how shall we say it.."lay low". No problems as of yet. In fact, I can hardly even tell the dang things off. I actually think I can eat just a little better with it off.
It was on a crown, and when they put my braces on the ortho said he was worried that one might come off. Well..it did. He said if it didn't stay on they would have to try something else. I can't remember what he called it, so I'm curious to see what will become of my naked crowned bracket less tooth.

Ok..well, I just got back from the ortho's office. At the moment, I'm trying to find the sharpest object I can to shove deep into my eye sockets, :-+ cause my teeth feel like my (bleep) did when I gave birth to my 10 1/2 lb son. :soremouth: Oh wait..that's right, I HAD DRUGS!!!!

So I go in thinking I'm just going to get a bracket replaced, and ol Dr. Happy Pants decided to just have ourselves an adjustment party. I have to say I was kinda glad. That way I didn't have to come back next week. So he switched out my wire, no big deal...or so I THOUGHT!!! Oh ya, AND...he decided to double lig...all...my....brackets. Now, in this part here I would put in quite a few curse words...but the admin would just take them out, so..let me just say, that when she got to my 4 bottom middle teeth, I literally...was halfway out of my chair in pain. She kept rubbing my shoulder saying, "I'm really sorry honey, I know this has to hurt." DA...ya think so  ..somebody could've warned me. I mean, I could've at least sucked on a washcloth dipped in Whisky or something.
You could literally here the tooth move as she hooked it and then pulled to bring it up and around. I must have really done something wrong this weekend for GOD to surprise me with this one. I'd rather have to streak down main street naked with vice grips attached to my body parts  than to have to go through that again.

All I can say...is I better see some sorta change this month....no pain..no gain...right? I'll post pics later with my new purple ligs. Huge change in my back teeth...nothing worth mentioning in my front.

Toodles for now peeps......gonna go stick my head in the trash compacter.. :-(( :-((

Ok...here's my new purple ligs...which I must say, I JUST LOVE!!!! Way better than the pink.

Anywho, 24hrs after 1st adjustment...still alive...my teeth surprisingly don't throb like I thought they were going to. Instead..each and every tooth feels like it has a cavity in it. :Questions: Makes for an interesting chew fest. Not bad though..worth every second of it.

I do have an interesting tale to tell though about yesterday..and if anyone out there can relate...would love to hear about it. I'm thinking maybe I was in so much pain though, that maybe I "imagined" the whole thing. And NO...my dentist did not climb on top of me and have his way with me...like my husband thought I was going to say... DORK.
Anyway, so they looked everything over, tell me what their going to do and the tech takes all my ligs off of both top and bottom. Then, she takes off the wire from the bottom and from there starts to work on my top..putting my double ligs on. Meanwhile my bottom teeth are free of wire, and free of ligs and without thinking I run my tongue along those teeth, the bottom ones...AND I SWEAR TO MOTHER LOVIN GOD you could feel each and every one move :yikes: ...just like looking at "the wave" at a football game...as my tongue moved over each one..it moved forward and then backwords....ewwwwwwwwww....yucky...gross...My mind was like, "no..don't touch them again" and then, my tongue took over...and of course, touched them again getting that same....weird feeling. So...very...freaky!!! :-*

First of all...thanks everyone for the words of "love"...greatly appreciated!!
Ok, well..it has officially been a month. So..lets review what I have learned over my FIRST month in braces.
First and foremost...I totally underestimated how much my teeth were going to ache. That is just me. Not all of them...mainly my 2 front top teeth. BOO..YAAAAAAA. :soremouth:
My back teeth still do not touch, therefore I have not enjoyed any meat, therefore, I have lost..to date....9lbs. :jump:
Flossing...what...a....joke. In the time it takes me to floss...I could watch a snail win the amazing race...twice.
If my husband thought I spent an enormous amount of time staring at myself in the mirror before....now...it's gi-normous. I can't help it...I stare at my teeth...ALL..THE..TIME. Move teeth..move...just move..ok...their gonna move...are you moving??? ...I think I saw them move???... :-*
I haven't smiled this much since I was 13...and realized...I was my mommy's favorite. I always hated smiling...now...I smile so much men think I'm hitting on them, women think I'm hitting on them :smoken: , teenagers think I'm high and small children, well....they run the opposite way screaming for their mommy's and daddy's thinking I'm some freak. :yikes: I find it very interesting that I smile this much...considering at this point...IT'S STILL THE SAME DAMN SMILE.
I talk about my teeth all the time, like their one of my kids (their costing me about as much as birthing one did) To the point where now, my family is like..."oh come on" everytime I start with, "so..today, my teeth....."
My mouth gets terribly dry. Like a desert.
My husband....not fond of them. I mean, he's all about supporting me on this journey, but....for his own personal liking....um..nope, not a fan. I think he's "afraid" of them. Maybe a little jealous....I mean, they ARE in my mouth a hell of a lot more than he is now days.
People think I'm younger...why...I have no idea....but I'll take it.
No real movement in the front...but I've had a back tooth move completely around. Never even thought to take pictures of my back...only my front.
Brushing. I feel like I brush my teeth, more than I brush my hair. Is this a good thing? :?: :?: :?:
All I know...is that as afraid as I was of dentists....not having gone to one in years..MANY, MANY....YEARS. Never ever dreaming that I would have the courage to go and get my teeth fixed, let alone put braces them....it is by far not only one of the smartest moves I've made in a long time, but one of the best "feeling" moves I've made. So very glad I did it. Nothing I've gone through over the last month would even come close to making me think I shouldn't have done it. Now...ask me that it a year....

You've made me smile today. I agree the brace journey is one of the best things some of us can do for ourselves. In a way I'm sorry the journey is over. I miss the excitement of things moving and touching and not touching a couple of days prior.

If you really want to get your husband going, tell him you've made an appointment for him to have a consultation.

I recently finished up my first month as well and Ive seen plenty of changes. Even if you cant see them, the changes will sneak up on you over night.

As for your husband being afraid of them, Im afraid to even phathom the idea of putting....well my boyfriend anywhere near my mouth. Not sure what he thinks though. It does feel like a bit rough for your tongue let alone a....yeah. Just put lots of wax in your mouth, and take it slow!

I love the purple. I think Im going to get white ligs on top though, in all honesty. Im sporting aqua right now and I love it, but Im not sure about it all yet.

Good luck :]]]

I took the plunge and tried it although it was awkard on my end it's really not a big deal just don't use your teeth. Or lick it like you would and ice cream cone :P . I don't kiss as passionately as I used to but you find other ways to make it up

I had to convince my wife to keep things closely trimmed for fear of getting hair snared by a bracket.
