how expensive is it?

#1 Post by boskabouter »

Hi there,

I had regular brackets when I was 17 until I was 18. After the treatment my ortho wouldn't put a wire behind my teeth, she thought it wasn't necessary and not good for my teeth. And what did I know, right?
I'm now almost 24 and my teeth are back exactly to how they were before my orthodontic treatment...

Because of m age and the fact that I do modelling work from time to time, I want to get braces again, but really don't want them to be visible. So I was thinking lingual on the top, regular brackets on the bottom (my sister just has brackets on the bottom and you can hardly ever see them).
Now... I don't have a lot of money. And insurance doesn't cover anything. SO how much would this roughly cost? I'm from Belgium.

In the US my cost for upper and lower lingual braces (ibraces), including retainers post braces was $7500. It was the most expensive of the options (metal, ceramic, and invisalign). Fortuneately, my insurance covers 25%. Just the uppers might not be as bad. Best of luck!

It was about $8300 for both upper and lower linguals for me (in the pacific NW US). I opted for just upper linguals and lower ceramics for a little over 7k in total. It's basically invisible, no one sees my bottom teeth unless I show them.

I don't know what it would be in Belgium though.

Hi,

I'm having it done in Belgium too. I didn't start treatment yet, but I was given an estimate of about 5000 euros. (both upper and lower linguals!)

Obviously if your case is more complicated it can be higher (or lower) but I think 5000 euros is a good estimate.

If you get ceramics on the bottom you will probably be around 3500 to 4000.

£5,400 upper lBraces (Incognito) and lower ceramics...but that was before you got a lot less pounds to your euros and before the price of gold increased.

Strength of the Euro versus the pound affects prices in the UK and gold prices affect all to some extent since the lab vary prices according to gold price on the day. That said I believe the majority of the fees are for orthos time and at a guess a quarter or less of the fees in lab work.

In the Toronto area you're generally looking at around 9k or so. Some of the really amazing lingual orthodontists charge about 14-15k in the city.

The increased cost results from the large lab fee, the increased level of difficulty, and increased amount of chair time required at each visit. Appointments with lingual braces can take almost double the time for wire changes.
