Lower left central incisor extraction...Worried!

#1 Post by justink »

I just recently had my lower left central incisor removed to alleviate crowding, and I am going to get braces (well I have some brackets on already, but no wire) on the bottom to correct the crowding. I am worried that I will not be pleased with the results, as i have been perusing other peoples accounts of similar procedures and noticed problems with overbite and such. Can anyone who has had this procedure done offer any advise or anything like that to comfort my worries?

Also, I have had extensive orthodontic work in the past (I'm 17 now, and started when I was 7 haha), and have a 2 transposed teeth on the top (they are the 3rd and 4th from the front on the left, and they grew in opposite, but it is not very noticeable). Does anyone think this will create problems with realignment? I will try to post pictures soon!
Thank you for your time in advance :D

I thought orthodontists don't extract any front teeth. I got my lower 2nd premolars out though. I'd also be interested to see who else has had those front teeth out. Did you get a second opinion before going ahead with the extraction?

I have done hundreds of lower incisor extraction cases.
When indicated it is a good way to treat pts.
FInishing with extra overjet, etc were situations when the case maybe should have been treated a different way.

Hi hi, I am about to get my lower left incisor removed in some weeks to get rid of crowding as well, and my ortho explained that my overjet may not be decreased as much as i would like it to, however, I am fine with my overjet, its the crowding I can't stand.

I know there was a guy on the forum that extracted his, will see if I can locate the thread.

I had my lower right central incisor extracted. I had a lot of crowding, and that tooth has always been out in front of the others. The gum was receded as well. My gap finished closing after about 8 months and to be honest you really have to look closely to notice that there's anything different. I have a tooth in the middle of my midline compared to my top teeth, sort of like this:

I don't have any gum recession in that spot any longer, and I'm happy with the way that it looks, really. I have very little overbite and am still in elastics for now.

Sorry, my illustration didn't translate well, it didn't recognize the spaces before the lines...

I think this is Dr. Tam's site, but Patient 11 is what my teeth basically look like now, except of course I still have braces on :-)

this is all very reassuring, and considering that I already have a slight underbite I feel like I shoudn't worry about getting an overbite ( and since my crowding was very severe anyhow so it should fill in fine). I just have one more question? Should I worry about gum recession in my lower right incisor? I noticed it was lower than my left, but I had the left one out anyways. Is gum recession reversible or preventable? Once again, thank you everyone for the comments!
