Well, Im hoping its just the fact that I reached the age limit under my Dad's name and that I can get the insurance under my own name. My dad is willing to take me to the office (i have no idea where its at, nor have I ever had to deal with them by myself). Gee this has to be the nicest thing hes done for me in months.

The job of parents is to prepare your children for the real world, and my parents failed at that. They kept me sheltered like from the age od 10-18. Not because they cared, but because they could. I had more freedom at the age of 8 than I did at the age of 16.

When I was in college, my parent's insurance only covered me until I was 19 unless I was in school. We had to send proof that I was in school. Is that the case with your insurance. Maybe they need a copy of your transcript so far to continue your coverage.

Are you being kicked off the health insurance plan altogether, or being told that your orthodontic coverage has aged out? Is your orthodontic coverage through a health insurance plan or a dental plan?

Starting within months, the new health insurance laws say that you are able to stay on your parents health insurance until you are 26, provided you don't have a job that provides insurance, are listed as a dependent, etc. I *believe* that from what you've told us, you should fit the requirements (of course, I don't know if your orthodontic coverage is a part of the plan, is a separate dental plan, has age limits, etc.). If it's an age limit thing, or a dental plan, you're probably out of luck as far as them paying.

This is horrible. Don't give up just yet. I think working at your school would be a great idea and you don't have to worry about rides. I hope your orthodontist has a heart and is willing to work with you. They can't just leave you like that it's not your fault. I wish there was something I can do to help. :( I am paying for braces on my own i wish I would have been eligible for care credit but I have terrible credit so I have to pay out of pocket. Hang in there I am sorry this such a struggle. Remember when things get real bad there is always some good I promise.

Cosmo- Ive looked into working through my school and trust me, its not worth it. An old housemate of mine worked for the school and it was a nightmare.

Today an employer called me and wants to schdule an interview. So thats a plus, but that also means if I wanted to apply for medicaid I might not be able to due to my individual income (if I get the job). I dont know what to do. Still no calls from the office I called on Friday. I guess I need to keep on calling.

If worst comes to shove and I have to get my braces removed, I need to find a way to get retainers. Because I will not allow my teeth to shift. I waited too long for braces and I refuse to give up. Ughhhh.

Does anyone know cheap cheap cheap health insurance for college students?

I really hope that you get everything worked out. I know how expensive braces are because my insurance will not cover them if you are over 18. Since I was 32 when they went on, I had to pay 100% out of pocket.

Your ortho might work out a payment plan with you. I would call them and see. I am praying for you!

I just got a call from the laywer/case worker person. She said I reached the maximum age for the plan my dad was under. And I said well Im under ortho care and I need to find a way to pay for my braces and she said that I could apply for MAT but something about a minimum amount of money and everything. And she said Im still dependent on my fathers income and that Im a resident. And I was like well youre wrong because Im only home for 3 months because of college, and Im not considered dependent because I dont actually live here anymore. And she said the only thing I can do is while Im in Portsmouth is to apply for MAT in Scioto County because thats where Ill be living then. MAT is coverage from the government I guess from the ages of 19-21. I will apply when Im in Portsmouth at college, but until then I cant do anything. And if I get this job I will be disqualified from MAT because I will be making "too much money".

Excuse my french but what the **** am I supposed to do till August?! I have an exposure surgery, wisdom extraction and two more adjustments until then.

I guess the braces are coming off. I cant pay for them. I cant even make monthly payments. I have no income, or support from my family. Im not even listed on anything in their name anymore, really.

What am I supposed to do next? :/ If I call my ortho he will more than likely drop me from treatment and cancel all my appointments, and I cant pay my Oral surgeon either. And I really need this canine dropped. If I get the braces off, I cant even buy retainers to keep them in the condition theyre in. My ortho doesnt take credit cards or anything like that so I dont even know if CareCredit would work.

I would either try like hell to get MAT in scioto county and then arrange for treatment at OSU (they have an AWESOME maxillofacial surgery center- my wisdom teeth came out for just $500, and that's WITHOUT insurance, and I had 4 premolars pulled for $30 per tooth!) I don't know anything about MAT or medicaid, but if I got treatment THAT cheaply without any insurance or anything it might be FREE with help! Not to mention, if they're doing research on impacted canines, they could end up paying for your exposure surgery, or better yet, PAYING YOU to expose your canine! I had a dental student PAY ME $100 just to let him fill a few cavities for a board exam!!! It's definitely worth the work to get the treatment!

I heard that OSU is backed up for months though? ;/
Is this true?

Can you hook me up with the number? Maybe they would get me in faster if I tell them I currently have braces...

The dental college is different from the orthodontic college and the maxillofacial surgery center... different applications for each. 614-292-9100 is the number. i'm pretty sure they're accepting new patients!
