Hi all!!!

Buckey graduated this weekend!!! I would like to post pics but that issue is to be debated. I'll put them up on my fb (name of social networking site :)) soon.

Catgyrl! How are ya? I got a chance to peek at your pics but I like to read the story so I've gotta take a moment to do that. We did have the same thing going on! I'm only in my what 7th month and since you got those teeth pulled sooner (I was a whimp when it came to getting those teeth pulled :)) I say probably by the 5th month you should see the biggest difference ever!

I love how they say spam when you say something like SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM  or SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM

Those were names of phones. The one that I used to take my pics. I was like, "What the applesauce?" when I saw all of that spam.

Lucky you! I had to clean up after my appointment and my sister was home. Of course she had to check out my extraction holes :). That is awesome on the smooth recovery! Congrats on being fully banded!!! It's such a joy! Well...kind of. It certainly is exciting and painful though!

Like I tell everyone on AW, it's all about the baking soda and peroxide. I've been brushing with bs&p since I was 17 and it has really whitened my teeth a great deal. The baking soda buffs them clean and the peroxide is like an antiseptic mouthwash removing bacteria, left over plaque and it helps heal the sores rubbing brackets cause quicker. (I definitely should be the poster child for bs&p.) It also allows you to drink oj in the morning with out that minty sour flavor. When I get home from work I'll check out your thread for the new pics and of course while I'm at work I'll read your story!
Here's to moving teeth, healthy gums, and whiter smiles! :-88

Ilehsal HURRAY!!! I've wanted braces (yes, wanted :)) since I was 12 and got them 7 months ago and couldn't be happier! I'm so excited for you! Just like when I got my extractions I had to go tinkle before my appointment :). The anticipation was too much! Which day is the official b-day or is that to be announced? I'll definitely check out your post to keep tabs on you. Make sure you take pictures to keep up with your progress it's very entertaining and amazing to see teeth move over the months.

Thanks a bunch! I have to laugh to keep my self from crying or throwing things :P

P.S. I hope I spelled your name right, the I and L look the same so I made a guess according to the bigger letter (I had to look really close).

Congrats, HeyBuckey!

I'm doing well now that the initial pain (yes, I finally had a bit of PAIN) of my first adjustment is over. My gums are a bit sensitive in certain areas (behind my extraction, and one rogue tooth on the other side that decided it wants to be swollen for the day). Trying to keep the tongue from wandering into the gap, but it's too tempting! haha

I do have a Colgate toothpaste that has baking soda and peroxide in it. I asked my tech if I could use that to help with the staining, and she started giving me the lecture about "Well, what about the area under the brackets that's not getting whitened? You don't want to risk that, do you?" I told her I had heard (from AW) that the amount of "whitening" agent in those toothpastes isn't enough to make a difference; that it's mainly removing surface stains (unlike Crest Whitestrips, which I LOVE, and sadly had to stop using.) My ortho agreed with me and said it wouldn't make much difference. Do you agree? I trust you, because you use it daily.

Ilehsal - I just read your story and replied in your thread. You go girl!! Forget what all those other people have said - you do this for YOU! I can't wait to see your pics. I'm fascinated by people with overjets because when I see their progress, it motivates me even more. :D

Hi All!!!

#156 Post by HeyBuckey! »

Hello ladies and gents, :)

I've been ridiculously busy with the move and all and sadly, I got into a car accident on Sunday. No one was hurt and my braces are still intact, now we are praying the car is fixable. Enough with the sad news, on to respond to posts!

Opera^gal!!! Hi! :P Thanks a bunch! Yes, the move is coming up next, We leave at 12:00 am June 6th. That's not that far away at all! I have a little less than 3 weeks. Now, I need a job. I've got a couple of prospects lined up and hopefully one of those will be my new place of employment! I'm so excited :D.

llehsal! I finally spelled your name right! :P I felt horrible when I couldn't. Thanks to copy and paste things went well . Thank you sooo much it was worth every second!

Catgyrl!!! Thank you!!!

I know that feeling all too well. My gums were sore where I had my teeth removed as well and I had some gnarly looking wounds. I kept (and still do) sticking my tongue in them after my 72 hour post op was up. But before then, my tongue kept wandering to the roof of my mouth by the extration holes. It just felt so weird! The worst part was when I first got my powerchain. That thing was a real *female dog*? I also got elastics that same day and I was in a lot of pain, I still somehow managed to get a crunchy granola bar down my trap however. That amazes me until this day...

The good part about if you started that, is even after you got your braces off and there was a weird looking stain, bs&p would gradually lighten that part without over whitening the rest of your teeth. I know because I had a stain at the top of both of my front incisors and after getting braces I was able to get rid of my stain and balance the color of my whole tooth. I'm not a fan of toothpaste but in this case I see nothing wrong with you using that toothpaste. Just because we got the metal doesn't mean we can't make our teeth shine :).

Adventures in Metal!!!

#157 Post by HeyBuckey! »

It's a shame I'm down to one adventure a month now :(, but I'm in the process of moving out of Colorado so I do have a valid excuse ;).

Anywho.

I had my 7th adjustment yesterday! Woo hoo! Things are moving very well and my overjet is reduced down to little or nothing. I still have gaps but now I can pretend to have an underbite, and that means the world to me . True story, the office I work with charges $400 for a transfer fee and $194.50 to send records to your new ortho. I expected this to happen when I began treatment. What I didn't expect was I couldn't make installments on that $400 without being charged my regular monthly fee every month for 3 months until the account was sent to collections. I was livid and proceeded to raise H-E-double hockey sticks until things changed. I mentioned how I was already shelling out thousands of dollars to move to NC and there was no way I'd be able to pay that, I got in touch with the corporate office and left 3, yes, 3 messages to patient relations. Before my appointment yesterday I finally got a call back!

Turns out they made it as if my insurance was cancelled and I don't have to pay the $400 cancellation fee or the $194.50 for my records to be transferred. To top it all off...I didn't even have to pay my regular monthly visit payment.I can't begin to tell you how happy I was! It's a wonder what a little abrasive behavior can do!

The appointment was another story. When I got in I got my powerchain and ligs changed (I went orange this time :)) and my Ortho decided to change how my rubberbands were...no problem! Or so I thought. The tech showed me how to put my new rubberbands on. They are hooked to my first lower molar, strung behind my upper canine, and hooked to my first lower biscuspid. all I can say is

&%@* ^$!%&!!!!!

Yup, they hurt like the dickens...I actually woke up last night to unhook them so I could get some sleep. Buckey is a warrior...except when it comes to that. It feels like these things are trying to pull my eyes down to my nostrils!

I'll be talking through my teeth all day because I can't open my mouth all the way, and I'm slurring my words pretty bad.

Now I'll have to tell my supervisor I haven't been drinking

Wow im so behind... moving to NC!? thats cool. What part? Im sure its going to be a big change from Colorado.

I laughed when i read you can now pretend you have an underbite. I do that at least daily. When I was younger i always wanted to be able to do that and now that i can its almost unreal.

Another small pleasure is seeing my bite marks. i bit into a sandwichand my teeth marks were so perfectly arched. I just kept staring at the bread...

i'm glad you were able to straighten out your transfer. Have you found a new ortho in NC yet?

Your teeth look great- love the orange...'so summer'

Happy 8 month to me! Can you believe it! I was actually on AW to acknowledge it too!

llehsal boy does that feel special! Even my family and close friends are recognizing the change! Things couldn't be better!

Alibracket! What's up? Welcome back :P. Yup, I'm moving NC in a little less than 2 weeks now. I know for sure that it's a HUGE change, it's a good one though. I have to tell you the people in NC are a lot friendly than the people in CO. Not that all are completely attitudish but you can definitely tell when someone is from another state. It must be the altitude :P.

It's awesome isn't it?! I never realized I couldn't do it until I could! I'm so excited! And to think, I was going to suck it up and deal with my imperfect smile for the rest of my life!

I can't even catch the bite marks because I'm either a) focusing on getting food into my stomach or b) focusing on getting food out of my teeth :). Nine times out of ten I'm on a vicious search for food lodged in between my brackets and wires. Maybe I'll take a break from that and take a glance like you did :P.

I haven't found an Ortho quite yet. I searched out some but one of the offices receptionist was a little snooty. Thankfully she gave me the number to another ortho's office because I don't think I could deal with her tude...

I was trying to be bold and daring with the orange. I also did it because that's the color my rose ligs turned after a while and I didn't think it looked bad at all! The problem I did have was they were supposed to be rose and not orange! Now, I have to say I love it!

HeyBuckey! :D

Just wanted to stop by and say 'hi'. Enjoying your story as well as all your witty contributions on this forum. I've spotted you quite a bit around here!

It seems your orthodontic issues are almost at the other end of the spectrum from my own. I wish that I had an overbite. Part of my treatment plan involves advancing the top teeth forward (and the bottoms backward) to create a normal overjet. It will involve elastics and power chains as well, but probably in a whole different way from your treatment. It's so interesting, isn't it - all the different plans for all varieties of teeth? 8)

Good like with your move...and continuing your treatment!

Mike

Hi Mike,

I happen to like your name very much because it could be interpreted as:
Mike Smile
-or-
Mike's Mile

Both are awesome and profound in regards to your journey!

Anywho, thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you're enjoying the story. LOL!!! Overbiters want to be Underbiters and Underbiters want to be Overbiters :P.

It amazes me how no one on AW has the same story. Somethings always different even if their teeth look close to similar. Will you be getting extractions as well? They are working on sending my upper row backwards to work out the damage my little thumb created and it seems in a sense that we do share something in common. I'll be sure to check our your story and thanks for the well wishes!

Hi Buckey :D

Thanks for the compliment on my name. Yep, that's why I chose it. I like the double meaning as well. 8)
Here's to all overbiters & underbiters becoming perfect biters... :-88
