Lig colours (colors)
Moderator: bbsadmin
I got braced 2 days ago and last night I had curry quinoa. My teeth were hurting (although I mentioned in another thread that I was not feeling any pain - WRONG!!!!) and so I chewed on one side of my mouth only. This morning I discovered that the ligs on the right side were stained neon yellow and the other half is still nice and clear. It looks funny. I'm going to have to eat more curry and stain the other side to even it out!
Before being braced I read up a lot on lig colours and was going to ask for silver or light purple to reduce staining but I didn't even realise that they had put the clear ligs on until it was too late. I think they assumed I wanted clear ones since I have ceramics. I'm going to try the light purple next.

I to got ceramic brackets and requested white Teflon wire ties. I was afraid with pasta (my fav) I would stain them. I was also surprised to learn I could have a tooth colored arch wire. I've had Curry, Pasta, Red wine so far and have had zero staining. I'd ask for wire ties next time if they have white ones. The one Bonus with wire ties for me is the orthodontist has to do the ties so I get one on one time with my orthodontist not his assistant.KatieGee wrote: Before being braced I read up a lot on lig colours and was going to ask for silver or light purple to reduce staining but I didn't even realise that they had put the clear ligs on until it was too late. KatieGee - you will love the light purple on the ceramic. It's the first color I got and it looks great! I made the mistake of eating tumeric about a week after getting them in and all it did was make the purple a little darker and a tad dingier. I've got an appt. next week and they still look pretty good and that's saying a lot as I drink a ton of coffee, eat a ton of chocolate and LOVE pasta. I'm going for pink next time and maybe rainbow the next? Have fun with it!

Got these ones put on last Friday, at a random street clinic. Gold on top, neon green on bottom. Boring. I have found gold to be the least conspicuous color so far. If you are looking for an inconspicuous color, consider gold. If for a certain occasion I wanted as inconspicuous as possible I would probably put gold top & bottom.
Then got these ones put on yesterday for my official appointment. The assistant asked me what color I wanted, and I stared at the selection and couldn't make up my mind. She suggested "hot pink" (I think as a joke), and I said sure why not. Actually it is a boring color.
I have done pretty much every color, so I am truly at a loss as far as what to try next. Blue - while controversial - is probably my favorite so far actually (the sky blue/metallic blue combination), although I thought I would hate it. The one I don't quite have the guts for at the moment is black - which is definitely the most controversial color. I haven't done a full dark purple yet either.

colored ligs
Hi -
Obviously we're all adults here and I can tell through all 73 pages of this topic that everyone likes to get different colored ligs. I just have silver ones because I was afraid of getting colored ones and having people make fun of me because I'll be 30 in the fall and I thought colors were for kids and teens. I'm trying to get up the courage to ask for purple or blue ligs, and I love my braces and all, but I'm too sensitive about what people say and then I'll try hiding my teeth. Does anyone have any advice about trying not to care what people think about colored ligs as an adult?
Also, tsnurfenator - I studied in the Dominican Republic in 2002. I only saw two people with braces the whole time I was there, both in metal, one a teen and the other an adult. They had them to show that they had money and not for any real correction. At the time, it made me mad because I had needed braces since I was a kid, but never got them and there were actual people in the world wearing them for kicks or something.

@gazelle - beautiful I love them. Ever put colors on top also?
@sadpanda - I have never received a comment from anybody about colors (at least not from people without braces). I don't think people notice colors. They are just a detail.
One technique you can do (as you see gazelle do in the photo) is put wild colors on the bottom and put neutral color on top - that is assuming your top teeth naturally show a lot more than your bottom teeth, so nobody will see them unless you show them.

My recent colours- light, half transparent pink & dark pink on the top, and light blue and dark, half transparent blue on the bottom.
Actually, after eating curry blue turned into turquoise, but I think it still looks nice.

Well... after 3 months of hemming and hawing... I decided to change my upper brackets to Radiance clear brackets. And I LOVE THEM!!
I opted for clear ligs the first time out, just so I could admire the clarity of the brackets. I may get brave and go for color later on down the line. I'm a bit too chicken to try out staining foods (switched from Pepsi to Sprite), although I did eat a French Bread pizza today, and found no staining from the tomato sauce.
