Starting my refinements... hmm

Like some others, I had impressions done with the buttons left intact... I popped in refinement tray 1 of 10 tonight and wow... no pressure at all. But I say wow in a bad way.... how are my teeth going to move if I feel no pressure at all?

All trays in my 1st go-around were very tight the first night. This one I popped in and it was no pain at all.

Should I talk to my invisalign dentist about this? How can my teeth move if there's no pressure the minute I first put them on? Should he have removed my buttons before doing the impressions?

It's a bit frustrating because I have 10 trays to go and this time 3 weeks each instead of 2. And it took about 6 weeks to get the refinement trays. Now they feel very loose... how will it get the job done? Or will it tighten up in the 2nd tray on? Those who have done refinement please weigh in, thanks.

Depending on the condition of your attachments, it can be ok that your attachments were left on for impressions. The amount of pressure on the teeth may vary depending on the movements required. Can't comment on why your doctor suddenly switched to 3 weeks from 2.

If your Invisalign provider is experienced and has provided quality results for others, I wouldn't be too worried. However, if you do have questions about this, it may be a good idea to give them a call.

He wants them to be in longer. He is experienced and a top-of-the-line provider, but I was expecting tight pressure from tray 1 on night 1. No pressure at all. I'm suppose to keep this tray in for 3 weeks? Doesn't make sense when there is no tightness in the first 5 minutes!

I'll give him a dial.

Hi - my first tray of refinements was very comfy, but the tightness was back by the second tray. Not sure if tray 1 of refinements is very similar to where your teeth are when the impressions are taken in case you have been naughty waiting for your new trays? A bit like my very first tray was fairly comfy.

Popped in Tray 2 tonight. I kinda surmised recently that yeah, tray 2 would be tighter as tray 1 was too much like my previous tray. Tray 2 is definitely tighter, which puts me at ease knowing it's "legit" and that my teeth will move. I recall when I first started Invisalign, how tray 1 felt like nothing, but tray 2 hurt -- especially removing it for the very 1st time.

Glad to see this refinement treatment is working. 3 weeks instead of 2 is a bit of a pain, as I want this process to be over with sooner rather than later, but I shouldn't complain. Better than wearing metal braces!

I'm going to go through the refinement process next week. It's just one front crooked tooth that hasn't moved with me. How off track were your teeth and how many attatchments did you have?

Hi there,

I am on my first upper of my second set of refinements. My upper is also very comfortable with almost no pressure, but I can see a change when I look through the aligners to come.

Fortunately my ortho has not switched me to a 3 week schedule. I still have 54 aligners to go on my lowers so I think that would just be too dispiriting!

My orthodontist has started a creative approach to avoiding refinements. My arches are straight but I still have 2 to 3 mm of vertical correction to go. Initially, he wanted to do more with my lower teeth but I didn't want to wait another 6 to 7 weeks for refinements. I had to do this last summer for a mid-course correction. I've had braces twice before but my deep bite keeps returning due to the shape of my jaw. After a total of almost six years total in braces, I'm more than ready to finish!!! At this point, my orthodontist is more picky than I am at having perfect results.

Both of my Invisalign trays have been cut off to expose my molars and have room to grow out. However, the lower tray no longer fit and there were some minor adjustments needed to my lower teeth. My orthodontist's approach is to use a partial clear retainer that will give more space for my rear teeth to continue to grow out while also doing a minor adjustment to a tooth that is slightly out of line.

I'll still have the "Invisalign Life Style" for a while to come, but it looks like there is going to be 100% success in correcting my deep bite, which involves about 5 mm of vertical correction.
