Quad Helix Before & After w/Pictures

#1 Post by Vulcan »

This is only the beginning of my braces "journey", but the first 6 months were a fun filled, super joyful time with a QUAD HELIX wire spring expander. When I was first told I would have one of these fantastic contraptions I researched and researched for pictures of actual people wearing the appliance, but only found tooth models "wearing" it. And, I found absolutely no before and after of what kind of actual expansion could be expected.

The after pictures were taken May 17, 2010, and I was fully braced on May 27, 2010. I may or.. may not post brace pictures, but I wanted to provide my current and future fellow Quad Helix friends what they may or may not expect with their wonderful twisty wire pet. For reference, my Quad Helix was removed on brace day.. I know some people wear theirs long afterwards. I am 21 years old, so I was a bit worried about whether "expanding" would actually work, but, it did.

I still have a LONG way to go to attain proper tooth alignment, but hey, there IS a beginning to everything, and Mr. Helix was the beginning here.

If any current or future Quad Helix wearers have any questions about the experience or the actual appliance itsself I will answer the best I can.

Wow what a difference.

However it looks that a lot of the change was just tipping the teeth outward - you can tell from the angle of the teeth in the before and after. Is this what the appliance intended to do? I am using crossbite elastics and they seemed to do the same thing. I would hate to have to wear that kind of an appliance when elastics can be used to the same effect.

It did do some tipping, but it also moved the molars out of crossbite. I'm not really sure if elastics would have been the best choice in my case. Although I'm not really sure as to how much elastics can correct, or how long they take to fully correct crossbites.

Hi Vulcan,
It's been a long time since your post and I'm hoping you still access this site. Thank you for uploading the "before and after" pics of your teeth/upper arch before/after the quad hélix. I've just had mine put on 4 weeks ago and at this stage, to be honest, I can't notice much (any) difference in my arch. How long (how soon) did you notice your difference? Has your arch stayed wide or have you had a relapse? Did you notice any difference to your face (i.e. wider smile? wider face? any change in the appearance in your cheekbones?
Thanks in advance for your reply.
