I got my lower brace yesterday and have had very little pain or anything. But when I was looking I realised the wire was coming out the end of the brace at the back, its curled round and looks like its stabbing my gum slightly... it doesn't hurt but I'm wondering- did the ortho leave all that wire on purpose? She must have because its curled around, but I'm a bit worried because my next appintment isn't for 12 weeks!! She is quite far away so I don't wanna travel there for nothing...
Should I be concerned or just leave it alone for now?
They curled the wire so it won't come out of the bracket - which the thinner first wires can do quite easily. Because it is curved it can't "poke" you. If it rubs or causes irritation, use your wax. There is no reason to be concerned - because the wire is the way it's supposed to be.
I agree with what Audra posted. If it doesnt hurt dont worry. Given you have 12 weeks before your next appointment there will be some movement in that time and the wire may irritate you. For me this poking/curled wire was a nuisence and i had to have it trimmed. My ortho put stoppers on my wires to stop them from slipping instead. Good luck on your journey....
Almost all 4 of my curled wires broke off at one point or another. I probably swallowed them. Right now I've only got enough to curl on my top right, and that's only because the wire likes to work itself out that way.
