Hi all, just a quickie to introduce myself. I have been an archwire message board addict for a while now, whilst waiting for my own big brace day! I am still waiting but have just had my first extraction with two more due to be removed next week
On the whole, I would say I am excited about finally having the work started after a very long NHS wait, but these extractions are not very pleasant and I am looking forward to this part of the process being over.
I'm not at all worried about having fixed upper and lower braces at the age of 38, I see it as a means to an end and look forward to the result!
Thanks for putting my mind at ease with all your stories and updates everyone. I will post pictures and more information shortly. x
Hi, I have braces on the NHS, although, I'm only 18. I had 3 extractions too, and I haaated the injections! Now, it's pretty difficult to chew with 3 gaps AND braces lol but don't worry.
Good luck, you'll be in braces soon. Seems like only a short time ago I had my first appointment... hopefully it will all pass that quickly!
Nice to meet you I'm a recent 'revisitor' to this board since I am having consults to probably do this again - second time. I discovered the board a couple years ago and then stopped reading, I think I'm back to keep up with it now lol.
Hi Berry, thanks for the welcome! So you've been in braces for over a month now? How are you getting on with them and have you seen any movement yet? I'm wondering if your gaps from your extractions are still sensitive after this time - I'm feeling a little sensitive and worry that chewing my food will re-open them!
Nice to meet you too AliMommy1 ! - Does your post say that you are having to be re-braced? I'm not sure if you mean that you have been in braces previously and are having to go through it all again!

I haven't noticed any significant movement, but I wish I'd taken photographs because it's hard to tell I think there has been slight movement though. Don't worry about re-openeing the extraction area - I've eaten all sorts, even crisps (which was a bit uncomfortable! ) with two giant gaps between my back teeth, but I've had no problems at all. Although, for the first week or so after the extraction be more careful.
I am 'semi-rebraced'.... I have a replacement retainer with active component(s) to be added at the end of the month, and I am looking into inman for my lowers to tip them upright. I had full fixed metal braces 13 years ago with good results but I have some relapse despite retention. I did not wear my retainers full time for very long and I also moved while I was still in the followup retention phase, and I did not follow up with an ortho here until very recently. I'm trying to get copies of my original records for my treatment from my original ortho's office because my current one obviously doesn't know how I started out - all he knows is my current situation.
Hi there Hal2me, yes no doubt there will be a bit of whingeing and moaning on my part during the next eighteen months but fingers crossed there will be a lot of whooping and grinning as my wonky teeth finally get to look less wonky!
