Your smile looks great! Really, really fantastic and beautiful!

So how did it go? How do you like having them off? Isn't it nice to just eat stuff without it all getting stuck in your braces!

CONGRATULATIONS!!
I had my braces on for 2 years, 1 month, 2 weeks and 2 days.

The debonding was SO easy. The whole appointment, including same-day Essix retainers, took less than 2 hours.

I went back and hung up my purse and sat in the chair and she said "So you ready to get these off?". My new ortho has the best Michigander accent. She's just delightful. And what makes her more delightful is that she's amazingly fast. She took out a pair of plier-type things and just started snapping. She didn't take the powerchain off or anything. First she snapped one side of each molar band so they were kind of halfway off. Then she snapped off each bracket. It was like 500 milliseconds per bracket. Snap snap snap snap snap snap snap snap snap and then she popped the molar bands the rest of the way and took the top arch out in one whole piece. It was awesome and it was awful.

The molar bands smelled so disgusting and the molars and gaps they left behind were just rotten. I still have that taste in my mouth. It was like death. It was so gross, I can't even describe it.

But it was over quickly and she scraped and sanded off most of the glue in like 3 minutes. The air from the drill was blowing straight up my nose. It was most unpleasant. But like I said she was super fast and she let me go brush and floss. OH IT FEELS SO GOOD TO FLOSS! It was never easy to floss before, but now it's just FUN! I love it! So when I came back I found a little more glue on my good incisor and she sanded that off and then let me brush. Then they took impressions and let me brush again. Then they took more impressions and let me brush again. Then they took x-rays and had me try on my retainers.

I can't close my mouth with my retainers in, and my jaw sits so awkwardly when I'm wearing them but she said that was normal. I've got the worst sore under my tongue from them though. I have no idea why or where it's rubbing, because I've sanded the whole bottom right side of my retainer down with a nail file like she told me I should and it's not getting any better. And I think it's giving me a bit of an ear infection too, the way my jaw is sitting and my tongue is swelling. If I wake up confused on my bathroom floor, I'm calling my ortho, but until then, I'm toughing it out!!!

It's getting much easier to wear my retainers. I can almost talk normally and the sore under my tongue is pretty much gone.

Thanks everybody for all of your encouragement these past two years, and all of your kind comments! <3

Here is my beautiful bite (without retainers) on the way home from my debonding appointment. It was probably the 5th best day of my life, hence the cheesy grin!

Went to the dentist today!

It turns out I have TWO cavities, not one. The second cavity is in between my two front teeth ON THE FRONT of the right tooth. Thanks soda! But I don't feel *too* bad, because I had cavities before, very near the cavities I have now, and that was way before braces.

Still, I cannot stress enough- get your teeth cleaned ALL THE TIME! Or you'll end up with fillings in a totally visible area. I've had fillings done by this dentist before, and not only did she fix the cavity to where you can't see the filling AT ALL- but she corrected that dip behind your front teeth. A lot of people have concave backs of their front teeth. But it's bad because you get stuff stuck back there a lot easier. She filled it in and made it all smooth and flat. She couldn't do the same to Mr. Wonky, though, when she filled him, because he was so wonky.

Longstoryshort (too late, I know) I get my right (your left) lateral incisor filled before the wedding and my right (your left) front tooth filled after the wedding, in case it's totally noticeable!

My dentist appointment is August 19, and in the meantime, I am trying my damndest to get my teeth WHITE. Like Suze Orman white. I have been using Rembrandt 2-Hour Whitening gel (7% peroxide) but my dentist gave me Pola Day 9.5% to use as well. So I'm trying that. I'll let you know how it goes!!!

Hello shinyRiver :D

I've come across your posts all over the place here and was about to come say hello....when lo' and behold.....you've been debraced! Well, I'd just love to add my CONGRATULATIONS!!! Your teeth look awesome! The cheesy smile reflects all that self esteem you've earned from going through this process. You'll be a beautiful bride (looks like you would have anyway-even if your braces didn't come off beforehand )

I saw you mention in a post that after almost 2 years as a braceface, you'll miss your braces. I can understand that...It was a lot of fun, I'm sure! After the braces have done they're job, we almost feel a sense of gratitude toward them. Plus wearing braces makes us a little unique. When I was braced again, there was definitely a pleasant familiarity to the whole thing.

Enjoy your nice big slippery smile 8) ...and don't worry - those cavities don't show. Lots of luck to you and you future husband!

Hey I have been following your post for a while. First of all congrads! Your teeth look amazing! Gives me something to look forward to an hope for after these braces finally come off which wont be for about 24 months.

I just read your post about whitening. Before I got my braces on I had a huge formal to go to an I used Crest Pro-white strips. I figured if I am not going to have straight teeth I might as well have very white teeth lol…They did cause a bit of sensitivity in my teeth while I had them on. It was like all of a sudden I would have a weird twinge of pain for a moment then it would be gone.

But they worked so well! I recommend them even though they are expensive. It was like 50 dollars for a box of 40 or something like that. I didn’t even get to finish the box because I got braces shortly after the formal. *sigh* I did end up giving them to my boyfriend and he has been using them an his teeth look so white now.

Hope that helps!

I've been kinda following along since around when I joined, due initially to your fang (yes, I have one also, although he's a bit more...wayward! and I don't think he'll move nearly as fast as yours did!)...

But I really want to say congrats on both braces off and on getting married soon! Beautiful smile (even the cheesy one! you look so confident in that picture) and beautiful dress, too, although I know that's a bit late!
