Pain or No Pain

#1 Post by 38Illinois »

I am confused? I keep reading that people did not experience teeth pain. I am in day 4 and I have plenty of discomfort in the teeth. I am not talking about sore cheeks but actual teeth pain. I couldn't even bite through a boiled egg this morning. I am the only person experiencing teeth pain?

Heck no you're not the only one. I was barely able to bite into toast two days after i got braced. Its a very weird feeling. But that does go away. Give it about two weeks and you should be totally back to normal.

Oh gosh no....I think pain is the norm. I experienced my fair share and can definitely relate to not being able to bite into something as soft as a boiled egg. People who experience no pain are the (lucky) exception.

I couldn't bite into anything for about two weeks. All I could do was eat whatever I could mush in the roof of my mouth (yuck). Like the others said, though, it will get better.

The pain is most definitely normal!!!

I also had teeth that felt loose.. my molars in particular felt like they were going ot fall out (okay maybe exaggerating a bit). One side was worse than the other so I would just chew on the other side.. in fact I was chewing on one side of my face for so long b/c the other side always felt sore and loose (I was thinking for a second I had a cavity over there too) that one side of my face practically atrophied. I'm not joking.

I am one of those lucky ones who felt very little pain after being braced BUT my top row got braced first and although that was a breeze, when I got my bottoms about a week ago, it was a nightmare. My teeth were so achingly sore and the roots felt itchy all the time. Pure liquid diet, I couldn't even bite soft bread. It's funny how my experiences were so different with both rows. To make things worse, a bottom bracket came off a couple of days ago and I had to get it fixed today. There is nothing more painful in my opinion than to have your ligatures removed and new ligs put on when your teeth are still sore from getting braced. It was like someone was trying to extract my teeth without anaesthetizing me first! lol.

pain

#8 Post by sadpanda »

Like everyone said, pain is normal. My teeth hurt, but what actually bothers me more is that my bottom braces keep cutting up the inside of my lip. I've put wax on them and got some paste that helps with the pain, but I just wish I'd get to the point where my lip was used to the metal brackets rubbing against it. I've been in so much pain with the bottom that I don't really even notice the top braces.

I had no pain the first two days. And now its getting worse every day. Especially in the morning. I gloated at first that I had no pain...wow these damons must be a marvel of engineering I thought. I spoke too soon. And this is just a little wire....

I clench at night which makes it worse in the mornings. Two nights ago I was actually freaking out all night. I think we've all been there. Your teeth are supported by the periodental ligament. To move the teeth, that ligament has to get loosened up. Stretching and loosening any ligament is going to hurt somewhat. (If you want proof do the splits for the first time....ouch!!!) Supposedly it takes a week to loosen on average. But everyone is different.

It also hurts to wash my face and to tap my teeth together. My palate feels like itching painful...right up into my nose. I hate it. But all this pain means only one thing. The ligament is loosening up...and my teeth are moving :D

Day 5 and still can't bit much, but I think 5 star hotel high tea got the better of me, eating those cheese scones but not chewing much. Actually I try to chew something every meal but failing eating grades in my standards.
Even my orth told me to chop things into small pieces and eat slowly (the wire is thin) don't break it.
Went from chop sticks back to knife and fork... eating out with family at restaurants kind of embarrassing as either they have to order 1 dish I can mush or I just eat off a plate and everyone in their bowl and chop sticks. O well. life goes on.

You are not alone! I had an adjustment yesterday and can barely bite into a piece of bread. It's part of wearing braces.

For the few couple of days of Invisalign, I felt discomfort while they were on, and lots and lots of pressure. When I took them off to eat for the first time, my teeth felt very wobbly, and some teeth felt a bit like I had a cavity - that sort of pain. I could eat most normal things (forget apples etc though), but just very slowly. It took me 25 minutes to eat a bowl of cereal or a simple cheese sandwich.

By day 5 I could eat most things normally - but I still feel like apples are too dangerous!
