4 Weeks and Still Sore?

#1 Post by 38Illinois »

Well it seems a lifetime but I have been braced for 4 weeks and my teeth are still very sore. Has anyone else experienced soreness into their 5th week? I had trouble chewing a cooked mushroom and my front teeth are very sore. Thanks.

I suppose everyone is different. After 2.5 weeks, my teeth stopped being sore. The only thing that bothered me was that the hooks and brackets were cutting up the inside of my lips and cheeks even after 4 weeks.

Mine were sore for the first 3 weeks, then after the first adjustment for about two weeks but every adjustment after this my teeth were only sore for a few days so it dies get easier each time.
(I almost feel better when they're sore because it makes me think they're moving quicker!!) :?
Braced for 19 months 2 weeks and 2 days.

This is my biggest fear - I've only been braced for three days and the pressure/pain is driving me nuts, I just want to eat something properly!

The end result is what is keeping me from ripping the braces out myself - so just keep thinking of that :) Hope you feel better soon!

I've had my braces on for ten weeks - for the first month things were noticably sore and it wasn't until the sixth week that the soreness went away and I was able to eat harder foods. After my first adjustment I was only sore for a couple of days - everyone is different though....it's hard to believe sometimes but things do get better! :)

1. when i first got braced the next day every tooth was very sore.

2. Most of the soreness has went away but I am getting intermittment soreness on random teeth, mainly my bottom third teeth from the back on bottoms seem to be the sorest right now. it is where there is a metal plate and a bracket on top of it.

I am almost a year in, my teeth have been sore off and on the entire time. It may be weeks where there is no pain at all, then all of a sudden, you wake up and something is so sore that you can't really chew on that area.

Depending on your treatment plan, the pain/soreness will continue throughout. You may get elastics, powerchains, powerties and with those comes, pain. It gets easier to deal with, I would be concerned if one did not have any discomfort at all.

Boy do I know how you feel. I felt the same way. It does get better. Really it does. The food I couldn't eat the first week of being braced is a bit easier now. I have lost 4 pounds in the two weeks I have had mine since I couldn't eat. I had very painful molars. They still hurt but not nearly as bad when the braces first got put on.

I too wanted to rip mine out as I just wasn't used to the feeling of pressure on my teeth. Hang in there. Now the braces don't bother me. I forgot sometimes they are they.

I am still in pain on and off nearly 7 weeks into treatment. For me, there are two types of pain - there's a general achey tiredness in my jaw, which is there most of the time, and then pain in particular teeth, which is quite sharp and worse with biting down or when my teeth accidentally knock together. My front teeth are still quite painful - particularly in the past couple of days - and I haven't bitten into anything with them since my braces were fitted!

I am trying to be positive about it though - it's for a finite time and any aches or pains must mean things are moving. The teeth I want to move the most are the ones that hurt the most, which seems like good news, although obviously uncomfortable. It seems odd to say, but I have kind of got used to the pain and unless it gets very bad tend not to notice much.

It's worse when eating and does affect what and how you eat, of course, but I can eat most things cut up and use the back teeth that don't hurt so much to chew.

Hope it eases up for all of us soon! Good luck!

its completey normal--i was concerned too

I had full mouth soreness the next day on every tooth.

It all all went away

then i had one that sore and senistive --i thought something was going on with the tooth itself---i coudnt even chew on it , hurt so much.

finally that one tooth no longer hurts, BUT NOW a new one is sore and it hurts like the dickens to chew on it.

i called my orthodontist and this will be on going and it is normal. take about a week for the pain to subside. then a new one will be sore.

Unfortunately, soreness is part of the process. I've been in over 17 months now, and had the most painful adjustment with soreness recently. Do you have sinus issues? When allergies are kicking in, I find the sinus pressure affects my teeth. Nothing an Aleeve cannot fix. Hope you get some relief soon!

Ugh. I'm starting to think I should be experiencing more soreness in my teeth like everyone else, but, like I said earlier, my main problem is that (now), all of my brackets except two are poking the inside of my lips and cheeks and cutting them up. I have OrthoSil all over them so they're not scratching, but I have no pain or soreness biting into almost any kind of food. I don't know what's worse.

Well the soreness is gone for me. Glad it is though. I am getting back to enjoying eating again. I swear the soreness and pain made me so nervous that I honestly felt I would not get a chance to chew food again on the molars. Looks like I am going to gain back the four pounds I lost. I am not due for my first adjustment until Sept 29. Until then I enjoy eating again.
