Turbos Anyone?
I have had turbos put on behind upper front teeth with my braces (wasn't aware they were going on until they were being put on with braces this July) and it has probably been the hardest part of the braces reality at age 43. My tongue is bruised and I find that I am biting down on them all night and possibly during the day when stressed (which is often due to braces)! Anyone out there with the same issues and any helpful hints? When I asked my Ortho about how long I would have the hateful things, he said not as long as the braces.... is there light at the end of this turbo tunnel?
There is a light at the end of the tunnel. I also have the terrible turbos and I find that they always rest on my bottom teeth too hard. I have had them for almost two months and I can only hope that they come off at my first adjustment in 8 days, but it's doubtful. I told my ortho that I was concerned about where they are resting, but he said to just make a conscious effort to not bite on them. I guess they will come off when they come off. I just wanted to let you know that I share your pain.

Thanks for the positive reply!
Great to know I'm not alone with this issue! I asked my ortho about getting the turbos off and he said they could be moved to another location, but that they are most effective where they are currently. I'll keep you posted on the next ortho visit turbo information at the end of this month! thanks again!

My tongue is killing me too! Good to have some perspective as far as time line for turbos -since 2009!?!?! Yikes! What about talking? I feel most self-concious about my "turbo lisp" and it seems worse when I am tired. I'm sure my friends and family don't mind that I don't talk as much, but I go back to work at the end of the month and have to do a lot of talking on the phone and at meetings - anyone dealing with the same?

I was just thinking: You did not know you were getting them while I did know ahead of time. I had about 6 weeks to prepare and stew. I consciously kept my teeth apart in anticipation of the change. I would keep my tongue propped between my teeth! ESPECIALLY at night when I was trying to go to sleep.
As far as the lisp: Mine is better than it was the first week FOR SURE but it does come out when I am tired. I am trying to take a day off from talking today as my tongue is really really really torn up and hurts like heck.

Wow - I'm sorry about your tongue. Sounds like lots of ice cream, soy ice cream, protein shakes are required. I like the idea of having a non-talking day - maybe I'll try that! Thanks for the feedback and feel better soon!
