Bought my new waterpik last week, happy to report my left nostril and right eyeball have never been cleaner!

OMG, this thing is a Powerwasher! I realized my teeth are more sensitive than they seem. Warm water is a good idea in the reservoir. I have mine set on about "4" right now for pressure. I did pressure wash my mirror a little bit as I tried to use it yesterday.

I definitely think this will be my best friend through braces!

(This is part of my response to someone in another thread- I am adding it here also.)

I bought my waterpik about 2 months into having braces. While it is not a substitute for flossing, it does get stuff out of the hard to reach areas.

Flossing in braces is not hard, just a bit more time consuming. You have to thread the floss under the wire. I tried a floss threader and I found it to be alot easier to not use one.

My normal nightime routine is to floss, waterpik, brush, then use mouthwash. I love the waterpik! I have found that since I now have a powerchain, I get globs of toothpaste stuck between teeth and on the brackets, the waterpik helps to get that out.

My waterpik has 6 different attachments/heads:

2 Standard Jet tips- provides a steady stream of water
1 tongue cleaner- used once or twice
1 ortho tip- has bristles that help clean around the brackets
1 toothbrush- isn't as good as my Sonicare toothbrush, very similiar though plus I like brushing with stream of water.
1 pik pocket- this is a small tip that gets under the gums - will be great for you.

There are 10 different settings, 1 being the lowest, 10 the highest. I think my ortho recommends using the lowest setting.

I bought mine at Walmart for about $50-60. I would highly recommend buying one.

I bought this last week. It works great but still having a hard time not squirting water all over my mirror. I guess it takes some getting used to.

What Waterpik are you all using? (the link in the OP doesn't work anymore), What model number? I am thinking of buying one and on Amazon they have quite a few, like the WP100, WP450 and WP36.

I keep seeing good reviews for 'Waterpiks' (not sure what exact ones though) on here, yet on Amazon the reviews for the ones I mentioned above aren't great to be honest! Most people complain the battery completely dies/wont charge anymore after a few months. I don't want to end up wasting my money if this is a common thing.

If you don't have counter space and don't want to deal with the batteries you can look at the Redi Breeze on Dentakit.com I love it. It hooks to your faucet so you can control the pressure and its silent. Just thought i'd let you know about it.

I have the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser and really like it. It really does get food residue off like a charm, I still floss and alternate waterpik and floss.

It is really convenient and efficient. I am confident it will be a great companion for my braces!

Chrystal- I have the Waterpik Ultra, it has 6 tips. Model WP-100W(W). I bought it at Walmart for around $50-$60. I have never had a problem with it, I love it. There is no battery (that I am aware of) you plug it in.

Certainly looks like a good gadget ashesgap!
I am in the UK though and shipping is high, so I'll leave it and try and see if I can find something I can buy in the UK.

Yes the WP100 is mains powered not battery, so this one has pretty good reviews. The battery powered ones (WP360 and WP450) are the ones with not so great reviews (all about the battery packing up). Which is a shame as they would be better for me as I have no electricity point in my bathroom. Nevermind, I will keep looking!

Hi Chrystal,

Just prior to being braced I invested in a new sonicare toothbrush and a waterpik ultra cordless WP450 - I bought both online at www.sonicaredirect.co.uk which seemed to be best UK prices (think they are still offering free delivery on orders over £25 too!)

I love my waterpik! It literally does powerwash all the debris out of my metalwork!! We don't have an electric socket in our bathroom or the space to put the larger mains operated unit so this seems like a good solution.
