Hi, I have posted in here previously, I thought I needed lower jaw surgery. I have been messed about no end on my journey starting with my dentist referral to an orthodontist & then the hospital called me the day before my appt to say the person I had my appt with was an oral surgeon not an ortho & he would not see me! So that wasted a few months.
Then I went to see an orthodontist who told me he thought I did not need jaw surgery but he would sent me to see someone for a 2nd opinion. 6 months later I had heard nothing so rang arount to find out the original ortho had never sent a referral for a 2nd opinion at all.
Anyway eventually I have seen the 2nd opinion ortho (who works at the nhs hospital alongside a maxfax surgeon) who told me I have a slightly short lower jaw but he doesnt recommend jaw surgery for me saying it would not be worth it 2-3 years in braces & putting me through the mortality risk (yes he said that) & that I only scored 3 on a scale of 10. Im not sure what that means but Id resigned myself to looking the way I do by then.
The only option left which I will pursue is trying to improve my teeth by either orthodontics or veneers. Hopefully nice teeth will take some emphasis off my awful jawline.
Im sad but also a little relieved at the same time. Maybe I could have a chin implant. Jaw implants would be good but its not common in the uk.
So good luck everyone & I'll pop over to another part of the forum.
goodbye

To be honest, your bite looks similar to mine, even a bit worse. I was told a couple times that surgery wasn't worth it. I did enough research and found some of the best surgeons in the country to give me their opinions. I went to Dr. Woldford in Dallas, and Dr. Gunson in Santa Barbara, CA. Both of them told me that cases like ours are difficult and most surgeons don't know how to approach them, so they tell you it probably isn't worth it. It looks like you could use upper expansion and asymmetry correction. Good luck and don't give up.
