When did you find ARCHWIRED? Before or after bracing?

#1 Post by felicia »

I found this website about 2 week into my treatment. I wasn't ready for the things that were happening in my mouth (sorness, wobblly teeth), so I started desperately looking for answers online. That is when I found ARCHWIRED.
I am honest when I'm telling you that I am glad that I did not know about it sooner, because I would have freaked out knowing so many details people post here about braces. I believe it's good to be informed about the medical decisions we make, but not too informed either because sometimes it gets scary.
I am just curious if anybody agrees with me...or not.

I found this website before my first consult. I was actually looking in to linguals and posted a few times on the lingual forums first. I couldn't afford linguals though and got ceramics today. This forum has been a lifesaver!

See I am the type of person who needs to know every little detail of something before I do it, so I can be prepared for every possible scenario (that's probably due to my anxiety though), so I was even more excited to get started once I knew every little thing I could expect.

But everyone's different so I can definitely see where you're coming from!

I found it a couple days after being braced, and I was SO GLAD I DID, because I needed some major reassurance. I think the one thing that might have scared me away from getting braces if I'd found it beforehand is the thread where a couple people talk about their treatments taking much, much, much longer than initially estimated. I'm willing to be in this for a year, maybe a couple months over, and that's it!!! My ortho was recommended to me by a friend who had his off a couple months early, and the ortho's assistants told me that he does usually overestimate, so I'm hoping that holds true for me. That was really important to me going in. In fact, I'm almost considering trading my ceramics in for metal to speed it up a couple months.

I discovered this site about 3 weeks prior to being braced. Like NervousNewbie - I like to know most, if not ALL, about something before I jump into it. I like to be over-prepared. I think I freaked out my ortho because I was asking him all kinds of questions about brackets, etc., before I even got into the office. I couldn't tell if he was annoyed or impressed. haha When I got there, he showed me a couple of different bracket types and said, "I know you're interested in this sort of thing..."

I really treasure all of the information I've gained from you all here. I'm here every single day, and I'm sure my ortho secretly likes it because it saves me about 1,000,000 questions to ask him, since I get a lot of answers right here. :D

Six months before I got braced. I lurked for awhile here. Once I got the braces I started reading like crazy on here.

I found it I think a week before my first consultation. I wasn't exactly looking for advice, I was just incredibly interested in braces and how they worked and I already knew I needed them. I like to know as much as possible about stuff that affects me. 8)

I discovered it months before my braces. But, I am much more into the posts after I got the braces. I didn't understand a lot of what was being discussed at that time, before braces. Now, I can understand just about everything. Just like having babies, having braces is nothing like you thought it'd be.

I found Archwired about a month before I got my braces on. I was looking for information on ceramic braces and came across the site. I'm so happy to have found the site. I just love reading about other peoples braces journey and helping with questions (when I can!) :)

I found the forum 2 years ago and I haven't even started yet

#10 Post by BraceFace2o1o »

I found this forum in October 2008, so wayyyyyyyyyy beforst 'starting treatment' (I haven't even started yet).

I first really considered straightening my teeth in late 2008, and I wanted to go with Invisalign back then. That's when I found this forum! But due to money problems, not having enough for the deposit and just life in general it kinda didn't go ahead. I actually didn't book a consultation until July 2009 (the appointment was for August though), I then cancelled it because I was having issues with my wisdom teeth and wanted them removed prior to having my impressions. My wisdom teeth were booked for removal in November 2009, so I decided to wait until the new year to book another consultation. The new year (2010) came and it didn't happen because I was going through a lot of problems at home with my family. 8 months later (late July) and moved out and kinda settled, I decided I was finally going to go ahead with everything, but this time I wanted fixed braces and not Invisalign.

So, I had my first Orthodontic consultation on August 12th 2010, then another with a different Orthodontist on 20th September and now I'm currently awaiting a letter from him - if I am happy, I will go ahead with treatment. So nearly 2 years later after joining the forum!
Braces: Metal fixed upper and lower
Estimated treatment time: 18-24 months
Braces Removed: August 2013 (after 33 months in braces)
Retainers: Upper & lower essix and lower bonded

I found this site probably about 4 months before getting braced. Unlike some of you, I didn't really get into it until after I was braced, and experiencing stuff.....I felt that if I read up a lot beforehand, I would probably be put off. So I waited until it was all underway before participating. Must say it has been extremely useful, and everyone is really supportive.

I think I found this site after bracing. The braces were cutting my teeth up, and I went online searching for remedies..and came here.

Fortunately, in my research, I had chosen a good ortho; so I did not miss out on me not coming here before I was braced!

Hi,

I am yet to have braces fitted so I too found the site before. I think it was back in March this year. It was however a long time after me first wanting braces and I think it is great!

I found this site a few months before I got braced. Everyone on here gave me the confidence to make the appointment and just do it!
