Thank God for Dental Wax!!!!
Unfortunently I have to wait another week to put my wires in but I do have brackets and some cool purple bands! I felt fine the first night but then when I woke up my lips ached from the metal rubbing against them. The dental wax is a GOD SEND!!!! I can already tell this stuff is essential in the survival kit for braces. It's feels so good!!! Has anyone had any issues from dental wax at all?
AMEN!!! I've had wax on various teeth every day for the past month. The only problem I have with wax is that it tends to "flake off" when I try to remove it, and it's kinda gross.
I'm with BaliGirl - the silicone wax is WAAAAY better than the stuff you get in the drugstore. I find it much easier to mold; it sticks better; and it STAYS put, even through meals. Plus, it's kind of a clear, pearly color and looks nice, especially if you have to put it on your front teeth.

Huh! I'll have to try to find that silicone wax people are talking about as it does sound better than the regular drugstore wax.
Today I learned another great thing about wax: it keeps your lip from getting caught on that little piece of arch wire that sticks out the back. I was laughing and talking today and suddenly my lip stuck on that little wire and I couldn't close my mouth! LOL! So from now on I'll make sure to keep wax on that. :-/

The silicone wax I was referring to is called OrthoSil, and I bought mine from Dentakit.com. I'm not sure if it's sold in stores. I got the 50-pack because I have a loooooong way to go.
revontuli - I had the same thing happen to me! I was in the middle of a conversation with someone, and all of a sudden I couldn't close my mouth, and actually had to turn around, reach in there and unhook my cheek from the wire. So embarrassing...

Spurfy-
You crack me up! I was eating a sandwich the other day and noticed it was a lot "chewier" than it should be. Yep... I was chewing on the OrthoSil! I just completely forget it's in there because I can't feel it once I put it on.
Ortho's gonna get an eyeful of calluses when I go in this afternoon. I should tell him, "This is what happens when your assistant is on vacation and you handle things yourself!" (Just kidding... I wouldn't do that. He uses sharp objects and I don't want to piss him off...) He didn't check to trim the wire last time, and I've been suffering ever since.

I'd actually stopped using wax after the first couple of days because I was just too frustrated with it. I had to use it again tonight though and I agree - Thank goodness for wax! I got the molar bands put in today and one of the bands has a sharp hook which actually faces inward and is ripping my tongue to shreds so I had to cover it ASAP!

OrthoSil is great, so much better than wax. You can get it on dentakit.com, amazon.com, and practicon.com. BraceGard is just like OrthoSil, but thicker and I love it! It comes in the Brace Relief Pocket Kits on dentakit.com and in the refill packs, but I was able to get 80 little boxes of BraceGard on practicon.com. Each little box includes a mirror. OrthoSil and BraceGard have about the same cost, which isn't bad. I know this probably sounds like an advertisement, but I just wrote it to encourage people because I found the regular wax so inadequate. I've also tried G,I,S,H,Y G.O.O. from amazon.com, and it's ok, but it's noticeable, expensive, and you don't get that much of it. It's also sometimes hard to remove and one time, I thought it was going to pull a bracket off.
