Good luck to Broadway Bill!!
Leahruth- all swelling and bruising gone, how wonderful! I hope the same will be true for me!
Coloradogirl- how are you recovering? How is being back at work?
I think today I am going to try to put a little makeup on and attempt to join the land of the living! Still don't feel like going out in public yet as the one side of my face is very bruised. I did take a car ride yesterday to the drug store but I stayed in the car. Big adventures!

I also have some pre- and post- braces/wisdom tooth extraction/BSSO x-ray photos of my mouth if anyone is as curious as I about this kind of thing.

well ouch.. had my surgery Tuesday (BSSO, reduction genioplasty). Can't say it's been a breeze. Wednesday when I got home it actually wasn't bad at all but then a few hours later the pain set in, and yesterday was AWFUL. I finally got some pain control by taking 5mg oxycodone with 325mg tylenol every 4hrs, alternating with 400-600mg ibuprofen, so something every 2hrs - therefore can't really sleep over an hour at a time. I am SO swollen and bruised... when did you guys start seeing improvement?
And now, to add insult to the injury, all these meds have made by GI tract a MESS. Let's figure a way to get some probiotics pills into a liquid form....

Izzy, you should start seeing a turnaround for the better after a week. The primary thing is for you to get that pain under control and it sounds like you're doing that.
Unfortunately, the effects of surgery, anesthesia, and pain medication can make a mess out of your bowels. Look at a fiber supplement to keep things "moving along" (or good old fashioned prune juice), and you can also look at a stool softener (Dulcolax or Colace are the popular brands in the US) to make things better for you.
Hang in there...the hard part is behind you now!

Congrats Broadway Bill! The swelling will peak around Day 3, so it will get worse from here. However, I promise you it gets better after that.
Try and keep that pain under control - if what you have does not work as your surgeon to give you something else.
Remind me again - what exactly did you have done?
Take Care and rest up!

Congrats Izzy and Broadway Bill!
@mama--I looked at your blog: great pics! You look fabulous. You did already, but--check out that jawline! Wow!
Being back at work has been really good--good to get out and see people again. Of course, I need 2 hours of sleep after 4 hours of work (ugh), but I'm sure that'll improve as I heal. Very glad it's the weekend, though.

Chicago,
I had my lower retracted 5mm and my upper moved 6mm forward to correct an underbite. Not too major, but no picnic either! The selling is mostly just lips and chin right now, but it really makes out tough to see what's going on in there and clean. Still haven't had anything but water and meds yet, obviously, but I'll probably try some Ensure tomorrow.
One thing that is bugging me is that I can feel something in the back of my throat. I'm not sure if it's dried blood our a suture our what but it's annoying me! Other than that and swelling, my biggest complaint is nasal congestion, but the liquid Sudafed is helping that some.
I can see and feel the basics of my new bite, and I'm really happy with it! Already, I know that I made a great decision to do this surgery.

Izzy- you're just getting past the worst part now! I had my surgery on a Monday and started to see a lot of improvement over the first weekend
Broadway Bill - good to hear youre happy with your procedure already! If you're having problems with mucus, try drinking a room temperature tea. I found that helped a lot.
I'm pretty much entirely out of pain now! Even when I cough or yawn the pain is very minimal. The doctor started me chewing on Wednesday and I can feel my muscles getting stronger... even though it still takes a long time to finish eating.

Thanks guys! I'll try the tea and 7up ideas tomorrow. When were you guys able to really clean things up? I have some blood still on my lips and in my nose, and I'm anxious to clean that up and clean my teeth, but between the swelling and the bands I can't get in there, plus I don't want to damage anything. It's only been two days, but when should I expect to be cleaning? Also, how have you guys rinsed? I can't really spit or swish yet, so I'm not sure about rinsing!
I'm using Roxicet for the pain, and so far it's working well! They also gave me Ambien for a sleep aid, but since it's a pill I haven't been able to take it yet.
