I'm new here. I'm 19 and in the UK, not in braces yet but I thought I would join because I'll be having them in the coming months and I've learned a lot here. I keep coming back and I hate being a lurker.
To cut a long story short, I saw a dentist up until I was about ten, when it went private and we had to leave. Since then, I've seen a dentist just the one time at about 14 when I freaked out having moulds taken (I gag so easily) and decided never to go back. There were other reasons why I wasn't up for braces at the time. Mostly, I was too scared.
Anyway, years later and with a new non-private practice just opened in the area, I've had a dentist again for a few weeks. I've tried to put a pic of my teeth in here. It's a bit small- I had to take it on my phone- but you don't want to see it any bigger anyway. They're not pretty. My biggest problems are an extra tooth which grew out of my gum on the bottom and extra teeth on top, serious overlaps. I'm going to need extractions before the braces can go on so it's going to be a long ride.
My main apprehension is anything involving the roof of my mouth. Moulds are a nightmare for me and I could never wear the retainer which has a plate. I'm working on that though and just try to relax and remind myself it will all be worth it. My sister's getting married in just over two years and I'm her maid of honour so I want to look nice on the photos. My Mum's also having her teeth sorted for the wedding, so we're supporting each other through appointments.
Other than that, I'm veggie and a creative writing student; hence my nickname. I'm also interested in languages, especially German, which is also part of my degree studies.
