You guys are right. If it's unhealthy, it's often easier to eat with braces. Those foods are also often cheaper. But they say, don't bite into vegetables or apples, and I heard eating salad is a disaster, so it just happens that we eat too much ice cream and carbs. :(

I have yet to try a salad, which I miss because that was my lunch 2 times a week! Luckily I've been going without bread for lunches for about 6 months as a choice to eat healthier. I can manage softish crackers right now and Pringles are almost ok. I find I'm eating MORE at lunch and dinner to try and fill up to avoid the mid afternoon and evening snackies. I don't want to be brushing my teeth all day! I'm curious now how my pants will fit by the time my first adjustment comes around.

I am a chocoholic - and chocolate will melt in your mouth - you don't even have to chew it!! I have lost about 10 lbs since I got wired, but now that I've found out I can still eat cake, ice cream and chocolate, I'm afraid I'm gonna put it all back on - and then some!! How the heck am I suppose to resist it when I'm in pain or uncomfortable all the time and the chocolate gives me instant comfort??? I thought maybe the first month my stomach would shrink a little since all I was eating was SOUP - and then maybe, just maybe - I wouldn't need to eat as much to feel full... So far that theory isn't workin' out! What's a girl to do??? :?

You guys can eat what ever mush that you want, but I learned from my kid that actually you can eat about anything. Cut apples, carrots and other hard large foods, beyond that bite into hamburgers, steak, popcorn, corn on the cobb, salads, large nuts like almonds even large hard pretzels carefully and chew gum-not bubble gum. Cleaning is another issue. No need to be a sissy and gaining weight is a sepearate choice. Try it and enjoy.

Rhomboid, you're right - now that I've had them for a couple months, I have figured out that if I go slowly and am careful I can eat just about anything! I'm just really careful to keep the harder stuff in the center of the teeth and not let it hit the brackets. And I've been drinking my diet Coke through a straw, which doesn't really stain my ligs (and keeps the bulk of it off my front teeth).

So now I am back to pretty much my normal eating habits, which has stabilized my weight! In the beginning I was eating a lot of cake doughnuts, because they were easy to mush on the roof of my mouth. :)

Hi,
4lbs lost in 5 weeks - not bad going - but I'm missing eating nuts & crusty French bread & celery & kettle crisps & wine gums & biting into a pastie & .... ooohh so much -
But hey-ho - there's still wine & chocolate - so all's not lost!!!!

:D
