Yeah but mine seems to overlap it by a tad more than I anticipated. I remember reading that surgeons sometimes overcompensate because it's certain the jaw will not stay in the exact place. I'm just checking if this is correct.Rodney008 wrote:Mine are the same. Your top and bottom teeth are not suppose to meet up. Your top teeth should overlap your bottom teeth by a tad. This is what a normal bite looks like.
dvdrdiscs - In regards to the food and water, I wasn't thirsty or hungry, but I made myself eat/drink to help with my energy levels (not that it was a great deal of food) But I also noticed, the water helps to get the gunk off your tongue and mouth, but it also helps to keep everything nice and moist inside the mouth so it's not so hard to swallow.
Hearing wise - for a couple of days it felt like I had water on my ear, but as the swelling is going down, it's not there anymore.

Yes, the hearing problem felt very similar to getting water in your ear or going higher up in elevation. You're always waiting for your ear to make that pop so that your hearing can come back. Mines is very slowly coming back.
Today is the 3rd day and I'm already starting to feel thirsty and hungry. Definitely different than the first two days.
Just coming in to say that I got the feeling in my bottom lip back. It was strange as I had eaten dinner (and I had gotten it everywhere ) and couldn't feel it. Then about 1 1/2 hours later I was on the computer and realised that I could feel my tongue touching my lip. So it happened just like that.
I'm so excited. Downfall to the feeling coming back, you get the pain. But hey, I'll complain about that later. Now to wait for the swelling to go down and the feeling to come back into my top lip.

Hey, welcome back sokk! Up and posting already: I'm impressed Glad it went ok. I know what you mean about getting used to the teeth being in a different place. Enjoy the soup. You'll be eating plenty of it
Dani, congrats on the returning feeling (even if it does mean feeling a bit more pain). Only one half of my bottom lip is numb (other half and top lip were ok from the start) which is a bit weird. I can feel warm and cold there now so that's progress I guess.

I'm doing very well, thanks, Sokk. The swelling's going down rapidly and even my dramatic bruising is fading a bit. The most annoying thing is a mouth full of ulcers .
The US folks on here usually seem to get "surgical hooks" attached to their braces before they go in for surgery. I didn't get that. Instead, during surgery they fitted what almost looks like an extra line of braces right at the top of the gum line (bottom edge of the gum line for the lower teeth).
While everything was numb, this weird apparatus ripped the inside of my mouth to shreds. Now I can feel it and it hurts! I've had to put in so much wax it looks like I'm swollen again! But the wax has provided some comfort and things are starting to heal up again, thank goodness. And at least the ulcers aren't impairing eating since I can't chew anyway

Does anyone have more issues with their teeth hurting than their actual jaw? The last 2 nights have been terrible trying to sleep. I could feel pressure on every single one of my teeth. It's almost the same pressure as when you get your braces adjusted for the first time except you're feeling it on every single teeth, top and bottom!
I have a little bit of that. I'm guessing it is because the bands pull my top teeth down and sit right on my bottom braces. These teeth use to not touch anything so it is a completely new experience. Another problem I have is I wake up with my lips killing me. Funny thing is my lips were not even bruised or swollen to begin with, but they hurt more than anything else.

Thanks for the encouragement, ColaradoGirl! Nice of you to pop in
Rodney I was going to recommend Bepanthen (an eye, nose & lip salve which I think contains cortisone) for the sore lips, but a from a quick google it looks like you can't get it in the States...
