Extraction first before braces or the other way round?

#1 Post by ana7 »

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to ask whether there is anyone in this forum who had their linguals fitted on first before extractions?

I seem to notice that most people here had their extractions first before putting on their linguals. As for me, im 3 months down the road with my linguals but my ortho said i'm still not ready for my extractions yet. I actually can't wait to get the extractions done (2 at the top and 2 at the bottom) since i think only then my my teeth could move faster but he told me im only due for extraction after another 2 adjustment. Does anyone know the possible reason for this?

Hi ana7,

I am set to have my linguals and lower ceramics fitted tomorrow morning. I am having both my 2nd upper premolars extracted the following week. I would also like to know the answer to your questions!!

How have you been going with your linguals? I am so super nervous for tomorrow. I started a brace story, its just me rambling on about how scared i am!!

Hi ana7,

I'm having four premolars extracted starting with two this Friday before getting full linguals on in two weeks. I actually thought most people get the braces on first before extractions. Apparently the reason for braces first is that the brackets come on transfer trays that are shaped from a mould of your teeth, and this tray may not fit your teeth anymore if you've already had extractions and your teeth have begun to move.

In my case my ortho assured me that even after two weeks, my teeth won't have moved enough to cause a problem.

Hi
I have my extractions of 2nd pre-molars first - then the mould made for linguals (4 days later) and the braces fitted 6 days after that. Now the teeth are closing the gap and pulling all forward teeth backward.
Reason - apparently my mouth was too small to get any movement without the extractions first.

Good luck!
I've had my braces for nearly three weeks - and aside from occassional discomfort and slur - doing well..

I got the brackets on first because the incognito brackets come in trays which are moulded to fit your teeth. I don't know abour other linguals though.

Then I got the extractions. Then I got the wires on. Maybe your dentist is just really kind and didn't wany you to have gappy teeth for longer than necessary??

ANa7- I have my upper lingual brackets on only (no wire yet) getting both my 2nd upper premolars extracted tommorrow. jesus, these extraction gaps are going to be UGLY!

Lower ceramics were fitted one week ago, not too bad so far.

I've got top lingual and bottom ceramics braces on but no extractions (upper 1st premolar) yet. No news on when that will be either!

I wouldnt say it hurt it was just all bloody and to hear the tooth be pulled out...that sound will stay with me forever!!
Getting the actual wire placed on the linguals in 2 weeks.
