TADs/mini-screw Northern California/Bay Area

#1 Post by cocomecrazy »

I haven't really talked to my orthodontist about this but I want to do the TADs/mini-screw thing to correct my midline.

Like the distance between my right molars and the middle of the roof of my my mouth is greater than the left, and my front teeth are protruding and shifted to the left

I just had lower jaw surgery because I had an under-bite and an asymmetry -my lower right jaw is longer than the left (hence why my teeth are shifted to the left). They cut 3 mm on the left, and 5 mm on the right.

But prior to my surgery, my teeth were still not as straight. Straightening them was just hard because of my jaw (-or my orthodontist isn't that great :?)

I brought up this issue to my surgeon and she said it shouldn't affect my bite and the last steps to perfecting my bite/teeth is through my orthodontist.

I'm not that of a fan of my new bite because it's still off due to how off my midline still is :( it looks like I still have a crossbite and my lower jaw isn't positioning straight accordingly to my profile but it's positioning accordingly to my left-sesame upper teeth

So this is the problem. 3 weeks after surgery, I had an app with my orthodontist. I brought up the problem to him and he said 'what's off?'

And then I had to re-explain it to him (well actually I forgot to tell him about my molars, I just told him that my teeth were shifted to the left and making my bite shift to the left).

AND THEN HE TOLD ME THIS IS MY 'REAL' BITE and then he's gonna deal with the rest of my un-straightened

He also told me that an asymmetry is an asymmetry. That if there's an asymmetry, it will try to balance it off by doing whatever to lessen the asymmetry. Therefore my asymmetry is normal.

It wouldn't be NOT normal if my teeth were straight and so is my midline!

*sigh*

I did some research, and then I came across to some thing called TADs/mini-screws. My orthodontist already tried in the past to move my molars with elastics/wire that connects left&right molars.

Now I don't care how much this TADs hurt. I don't care if they're not FDA approved yet.

I want my teeth straightened.

Can anyone recommend an orthodontist around this area?
Maybe someone who can give a good price deal?
At the same time very well experienced/good at bites&asymmetry?

Has anyone here experienced the same case? Midline's off &shifting bites?

My orthodontist is Dr. Marcus, and he's from Millbrae

My midline is off on my upper arch in relation to my nose

My ortho said this will be corrected in treatment down the road. I am not sure how he plans to do this though.

I also have jaw asymmetry, but my dr hasn't really mentioned this. I guess I am sort of expecting my final result to not be perfectly symmetrical, but maybe close.

i also have my midline shifted to my right, but my Ortho mentioned at the begining that i might need 2 Tads...

now i'm waiting for the spring, to decide that..she said she will know by april or may.. i'm guessing she will attempt with elastics and then if it doesnt work she will put the Tads...

I am having my midline adjusted w/elastics too. But I know that a TAD is one way to achieve it too. Both my top and bottom are off to the side, .. I don't think it'll be corrected 100% to be honest. And the more I stare at my face, I think my nose is either crooked, or my chin is croooked, or both. I just don't have the most symmetrical face, so when I look at my teeth, I'm not sure where it's supposed to be. But, in the end I want my teeth to line up with my nose.. b/c that's what I notice more than my chin. If it's lined up w/my chin, then my entire bottom half of my face will look really crooked, I don't want that.

I had an app. today, and I'm getting evaluated for my midline in 3 weeks

Has anyone been evaluated for this? How do they do it? Like it looks pretty obvious in my x-rays, but he doens't have my current xrays

Are they gonna look at the teeth or my facial profile?

As far as I know, they just look at your face head-on and see if the midline looks off. I don't know why they'd need an xray to see this.
