Don't tell me that I should just have my teeth pulled and wear dentures instead of going through the process of having braces and jaw surgery (oh yes, someone actually said this!)

Do send positive thoughts and compliments my way. I swear they help my teeth move faster!

Do not ask how much it costs. I fully realize it is expensive.

jensceana73 - at least you get OFFERED tickets! I've never once been included in any of their games/incentives they offer the kids. Hell, I should have the BEST hygiene award! I know if I asked about it, though, he'd look at me (again) like I had 3 heads.

TOO TRUE!! And I was just thinking about that this morning as I brushed my teeth. My one big extraction gap has now turned into one big... one medium, and one small, for a total of THREE gaps. I could've gotten black and orange ligs a few weeks ago and gone as a Jack-O-Lantern!
My point was that teeth are by far a better investment then cosmetics or clothes.

RedDress..Ashesgap,

I find that in my experience with braces...adults either get it...or they don't, there is no in between. And, the one's that don't almost ALWAYS...say something without "filter". Like my dad, who informed me that this was all a "waste of time and money, who in their right mind would have those on for close to 3 years"....

Clearly dad, I mustn't have a "right" mind.

Gee, wonder where I got that from......dad.

The one's who do "get it", not only are supportive, but have some of the most wonderful and encouraging things to say. Without even knowing it, saying something so simple as "good for you", help to make me feel "tickled pink" about the decision I have made..... :pinkbraces:

If God wanted me to have straight teeth, he would have made my parents rich..or so I was told....

It never even crossed my mind whether it is a bad or good decision.
All you had to figure that it is right is:
Can I afford it? and
Do you want to have these theeth for the rest of your life.

If the answer for the first question is "yes", and for the second one is "no", sincerely,
what is the point to questoin it???

Haha! I guess as a person from the "the other camp" I secretely admit that people without braces with crooked teeth really make me feel bad for them, especially young girls. I do not mean those who cannot afford it, but those who not even consider it as a good thing to do.
One girl of 25, once told me:
"I though about having an orthodontic treatment, but that would involve extracting two perfectly healthy teeh!!, so I said No, thank you!".

Gosh, I wonder why does she need them all perfectly healthy teath for if her bite is all messed up and her fron teeth are really sticking out in 3 different directions? Sort of - the more the better. Kind of some supplies in case some of them get rotten )).

When the manager of my gym saw my braces she said "Good girl!". When a male friend saw them he asked how long I had to wear them. I said about a year and he said "Meh, what's a year?" So two good ones there!

Well, you are right , 4 extractions sound a little too much emotionally.
but sincerely, don't you think that in the end it is better for your teeth to be in the proper position? It really helps to improve your oral health and with proper hygiene - filled teeth are no problem. I actually have them all filled  . It does not get any worse, if the filling are made well and you take care about them (fillings) in particular too.

Please don't look at me when I walk in the waiting room, and then look behind me, and look...and look....and look, like...where's the kid????   (I have to laugh though, because all the little kids stare at me...A LOT.....and you JUST KNOW...you know, that their mommy's are leaning over and saying, "now Tommy, that...that right there....is what will happen if you don't brush, you'll be an....ADULT with braces")....such horror

OR....My othro's office gives us "tickets" if we've been doing a good job brushing and cleaning....we get 2 each visit. Anyway, we can turn them in for treats. All treats....are geared towards ages 11-17. So I made a comment one day about..."hmmm which, Hannah Montana poster do I want today", and would you believe one of the parents in the waiting room looks up from her magazine and says, "well, you do realize most of us have already had braces"  ....most of what lady, most of you @itches? Oops, I mean, adults. So the receptionist chimes in and says, um Jen, there is a gift card for Dairy Queen in there.

Gee  ....lucky me. How could I have missed it.

(No really the ladies in my office are really nice, and always try to remember to give me my "tickets" because they know I save them up for my kids to bring in and use)
My ortho does the same thing. My DH went with me to the consult the other day (for his consult, too, I guess) and the ladies talked him into putting in for the Christmas drawing. Then he complained about getting talked into take gift from kids. Had them rolling with laughter. I am used to the kid movies and crap, cause with the three kids I spend a lot of time in the peds office. I just kind of focus in that direction. My tickets go to the kids, too. :)
