Cost of braces and insurance

#1 Post by mishmish »

I'm getting braces on Monday and I want to know (if anyone can tell me) what the average out-of-pocket costs and insurance coverage is for full ortho treatment in th U.S. Where I live, orthodontia is cheaper than in America. I'm paying the equivalent of 2,900 USD for molds, x-rays, braces, retainers, and 6 months of after-care. Am I getting a deal? Will my insurance put up with me?

Heya,

There's a thread already existing that is about the cost of braces (altho, I don't think it includes insurance)... you might be interested in it still.

I would have stated you could have searched for it, but I don't think it's working properly yet since the upgrade to the forum.

My insurance isn't paying much at all, but any amount helps!

Honestly, I just started the account and needed to post something :) The other thread was helpful actually, so thanks.

Same with mine... but the FSA does help a bit.

From the other thread I read I see you are living in Israel and I converted your price to British Pounds and it works about about £1900... which to me, is cheaper than the average price for braces in the UK (I'd say the average is about £2500). I am paying £2700. I wish mine was £1900 though

To be honest, I think everything in the UK is over priced, whether you earn a good wage or not LOL. Private dental treatment here? wow... just wow lol.
Braces: Metal fixed upper and lower
Estimated treatment time: 18-24 months
Braces Removed: August 2013 (after 33 months in braces)
Retainers: Upper & lower essix and lower bonded

Just my two cents' worth -

We have excellent coverage and an HRA so I'm paying nothing out of pocket. My total cost will be $5,340.00 with the insurance company paying $1,250.00 and the HRA picking up the rest. The ortho also offered very affordable down of $600.00 and a monthly payment of $145.00, no interest or finance charges.

All this because I went in for an implant consultation. After the braces and then the implants (quoted at least $2k for each) I figure it will be close to a million-dollar grin. :o)

I'll be having my pre-braces cleaning on 9th and 16th December and then spacers put in on the 16th as well. I expect to be a full metal head on December 30. (Just in time for New Years' Eve!) Heh.

Oops. I should have mentioned that I live in the U.S. and that's U.S. dollars.
