LOVING MY LINGUAL SO FAR!!!!

#1 Post by lu lu »

Just wanted to stop by & say I LOVE MY LINGUAL so far!!!

You might have read me moaning about it last week after I had my wire fitted. Well i've adapted now & love it. Only problem is the wire needs to be trimmed. It's too long & causing my tongue problems. It's easily sorted with a bit of wax though until I get it trimmed.

I've had the brackets on about 5-6 weeks & my speech was OK after a week & improved even more at 2 weeks.

I've had the wire fitted for a week now & although I struggeld at first with speech & thought i'd never sound like me again. I do now & have done for the past few days. It doesn't always flow easily but it's fine most of the time. I don't sound weird & people can understand me.

I just wanted to post this becuase there are a lot of negative posts about speech & not many posts with updates after they've nailed it.

For the newbies considering linguals ..... Yes your speech will more than likely be affected. Yes you will sound a bit odd or different. Yes you will think you'll never sound like you again & not understand how you'll ever get used to it & you'll probs have doubts but most of all YES YOU WILL ADJUST just hang in there!!! some people adjust quicker than others & I think I might be 1 of the lucky 1's but give it time. Once it starts to feel normal in your mouth that's when you notice your speech is better if not perfect.

I find that my upper lingual is normal now & it's comfortable. I can easily rest my tongue on it & unless the pokey wire bothers me I can forget it's there & have done.

GO FOR IT !!

Good for you! It has been 12 days for me. The pain is gone, and I can eat with more confidence. I am still wondering if I will ever forget that I have braces on...

Hey Linnie :)

I too thought the same when I read people say they forgot they had them. I didn't see how it was possible with all that 'equipment' in such a small area. They feel so bulky & your constantly reminded by big brackets, pokey wires, difficulty with speech but once all that has eased & it feels normal in your mouth you do forget. It all feels so normal now in my mouth.

I'm guessing after each adjustment you'll have to go through it all again but then it'll ease.

Give it time & i'm sure you'll feel comfortable with it all & you'll be suprised at forgetting they are there.

Only reason i'm reminded about them is becuase I can't stop thinking about my teeth since being braced. I am obsessed. Hence why i'm ALWAYS on here lol

Also I was having problems with a pokey wire but had that seen to yesterday & today I finally can go without any wax what so ever!!

I'm loving my lingual :D

p.s - i'm not sure i'll ever forget they are there when I eat. I'm scared of breaking the wire & it's a funny old feeling eating with them isn't it

This is so encouraging to hear! I haven't taken the plunge yet and I'm still gathering info and weighing my options. I think I'd like to go for ibraces if I'm a candidate but I can't seem to get any estimate of cost. They aren't willing to give out approximates without an appointment and I don't want to get duped into committing on the spot if I go in. Are yours ibraces or regular linguals? People seem to be big on ibraces but I'm in Canada and not too many ortho's come up on the site for availability in my area so I'm beginning to wonder what the difference between the two is?

Glad things are going well and I'm sure time will start flying by and you'll be having them off before you know it!

Lulu,

So glad you've adapted now, I knew you would. I haven't been on in a while as i've literally forgot my braces are on. Linguals are simply the best thing i've ever done. Since I had my extractions the movement is crazy, my top teeth are close to straight, my bottom arch was pretty straight anyways so no noticed too much there either. Speech is 100% back to normal and the only time I notice is when eating as i'm scared of braking the braces.
