29, getting braces in a week - cant decide metal or ceramic?

Haha sadface, thanks so much for cheering me up! I feel exactly the same - it's so good to know I'm not alone! I hate the yellow-ness, and staining and sometimes I wish I'd had metal so I don't have to worry about curry, wine, beetroot etc!

I did so well over the last couple of weeks, avoiding staining. But then they just go yellow looking to spite me I think!

Dont know what metal would be like though. And I am pleased with the progress I've made. So it's not all bad! Roll on Feb 2012!!!

I'm in the UK too, wonder if it is better in the USA.

Personally at the age of 47 I had the metal ones and for one minute of the 3 years I had them on I did not regret it. To me the ceramic ones always made peoples teeth look like they were yellow. Don't try to hide your braces, be proud of them and your decision to get your teeth fixed.

I'm also 29 and have ceramic on top, damon on bottom. I had the same dilemma as you - part of me thought that if I was going to get braces I might as well go for the traditional traintracks look. But my orthodontist talked me into ceramic (they were the same price). He saw that I was nervous about how the braces would look - especially at work - and thought I'd be more comfortable with the ceramics.

I'm pleased I trusted him. The braces really aren't too noticeable and it wasn't such a shock when I first got them. I told my orthodontist that I didn't like the way the rubber ligs stained, so he uses white wire ties instead which you can't see at all. They're great - definitely ask if you can have them.

Thanks I just got a call from the ortho asking if i had come to a conclusion. I hope I made the right decision. I go in in less than 24 hours!!

I keep getting told they will look yellow and dingy!
I am getting the invu braces so I hope those are not that look that way
