Avatar Issues!!!!

#1 Post by scorr77 »

Ok I've been trying to add an image as my avatar and I keep getting the same message that file needs to be under 6kibs...... It seems like no matter how small I make it, I get this message. Can someone please help me out or give me some tips about this!! Has this happened to anyone else? :-+

Other than making the image no larger than 80x80 I always save my avatars for this forum as a gif, rather than a jpeg. I find this makes the file size small enough.

I'm not sure how else to go about it, maybe someone else knows how to make the FILE size smaller another way without also making the avatar really small.

What I did was I took my old avatar (which used to be perfect for this forum, but now isn't), uploaded it to Photobucket (like I do my other braces pics), resize it to "small", and then upload it here, and it worked fine!

I keep having the same problem too. No matter what different pics I use.
I use the avatar option on imageshack & even that doesn't work.

You could always post the avatar pic in a thread on the forum, and then someone could try and resize it for you.

I wanted to upload a different avatar, but now I'm struggling! :-+ . The avatar I want to use is 70 x 27 pixels, but I can't get the file size below 16 KB. I tried saving it as a gif too, but it's ruined the picture quality and made it grainy.

I'm stuck now. How are other people getting their avatar pics below a tiny 6 KB?

I was having the exact same issues, i found out that if you use the 'File>Save for web... ' option in photoshop you can chose the 'jpeg low' format option from the drop down menu and also lower the 'quality' option bar until you're below 16kb. Hope this helps.

I just tried this and it works perfectly! I'm now able to get the file size below 6kb. Thank you Mart :D

Gee, I had no idea that so many people were having trouble with uploading an avatar!

I don't know that the problem is. Maybe a setting I can tweak. I'll look into it. Remember, we just upgraded the message board a couple of months ago, and there are still a few bugs to work out. I guess I'll add this one to the list!
