No ligs except for the very darkest of colors resist staining. Foods such as curry, mustard and tomato-based foods such as tomato soup, spaghetti sauce and ketchup will stain most any color of lig. Black coffee and tea are other big offenders. If you don't want to use dark color ligs, I suggest gray for the bottom metal brackets. As for the ceramic, if you want something discrete, I'd suggest either smoke or light gray. If you are careful with what you eat and drink, those two will resist staining better than clear.

I love coffee too. I drank it with a straw and that prevented staining on my front brackets. Straw use takes some getting used to, but once you are used to it, it's no big deal. I got my braces off in August and I still drink coffee with a straw. I found that my teeth are much whiter for doing so.

some people have said light purple seem to resist staining as well as being fairly discrete. Can't vouch for that myself tho.

I've noticed bad staining with light blue. I had to wear one set of light blue powerchain for 9 weeks (ortho had a baby!) and by the time they came off they were tan. YUCK! Neon orange does well, it just fades a bit. Green and yellow I just wouldn't suggest, period because they make your teeth look yellow. Pink and purple seem to do very well. I've never tried dark blue.

I'm getting braces on January 10 & I'm 28 yrs old. I'm getting ceramic on top & metal on the bottom. I've too been trying to decide to risk it with getting the clear ligatures (and risk staining) or get a color that isn't too crazy. I've been looking for pics of people w/ceramic braces & different colored ligatures just to see what it looks like. :)

Look at the thread for lig colors. There's quite a few photos that show ceramic brackets with colored ligs, including some of mine. :D
