just got braces and my teeth don't meet!!

#1 Post by lunadali »

OMG besides the discomfort of having something in my mouth and feeling like I have fish lips, my teeth no longer close all the way! I can't chew! I only have a molar on each side that chews, that's it! Having difficulty adjusting to this change in my life. I feel overly dramatic.

hiya, this happended to me to. it probably wont last long. your bite will change so many times over the course of treatment. At the beginning i ended up with just one top and one bottom tooth that touched, before braces all my teeth touched. I put a post on here about it i think. Anyway, its fine now and after a couple of weeks my bite had changed again. It takes some getting used to doesnt it. Even when your treatment has finished and your brace is taken off your bite will stil move very slightly to find a 'perfect bite'.

i had fish lips too, coz the brace was so big to begin with as some of my teeth stuck out but they moved back before i knew it and after only a few weeks i had got used to it and could close my mouth without pouting.

good luck

This happened to me too.. only the very back molars on one side touched. it was SO hard to eat. So in addition to just the pain, and the extractions, I just couldn't chew on food so I had to eat soup and a lot of really soft things for weeks and weeks. Things that didn't require mastication, basically. It'll get better, not to worry!

thanks, I guess I have no choice. chewing takes forever with just a small part of my back teeth touching. Sigh. Looking forward to it all shifting quickly so I can eat.

My molars don't touch but it's never given me a problem when eating, only spaghetti... It's pretty normal to have happen with braces.

I have had this too, on and off quite a few times already. At the moment, only the back teeth on the left side meet, but I had been at a point where no back teeth would meet. I think the only thing I found really difficult to eat/chew when no back teeth were meeting, lettuce!

I look forward to even more annoying and funky bite changes because I still have a good 15 - 21 months to go
