triangle gap n food stuck

#1 Post by 59fifty »

i have a triangle gap in my 2 front teeth but recently 100% of the time when i eat i get food stuck in it, and the gap is small enough that i can only floss it out

eatin bread is the worst, is there any thing i can do about this? i got out of braces and i had 1 year of braces
i only wear retainers at night but they are always tight when i put them back

the triangle gap came n went in my treatment but food never got stuck, is there any options for treatment? closing it? filling it? i cant even eat bread!

I have a few gaps in my teeth where food can get stuck also. They appeared when I first got braces and my teeth straightened out. I was and still am little concerned about it because I'm a few months away from my end date. My ortho said on my next visit that they are going to sand down my teeth where they are touching to close the gaps a little. Because of the triangular shape of my teeth it causes the gaps to appear.

You may be able to have some bonding done to that tooth to close the gap. A regular dentist can do it. Ask at your next cleaning appointment.

I have a few triangles too. My ortho said that there is nothing he can do about it, that's the way the tooth is shaped. He recommended bonding.

I am also concerned about the rather large triangle I have developed in between my two front upper teeth.

I have not heard of bonding, could someone who has had it done explain what that involves?

Bonding is basically the same material that is used when you get a tooth colored filling. The dentist just adds it to the tooth or teeth to fill in the gap.
However, if you are still in braces and you are developing triangles, sometimes you can have IPR (tooth shaving) done to reshape the tooth to have them fit together better. I had that done on my front two teeth to lessen the triangle that I developed there.

I had the IPR done. My ortho only did my front bottom teeth. It was strips of sand paper grinding on my teeth. It was a bit sore but didn't last long. Honestly, I didn't see any difference afterward. I guess I'll look in to bonding to fix those gaps.
