I have self ligating ceramic and besides having three clear ligs put on to keep my wire tight on 3 rotated teeth which stained like crazy the actual brackets have not stained at all. I have no idea why ceramic would take longer. Surely the wire is what does most of the work?

If one has jaw surgery I think they have to have metal as hooks and bands have to be attached at a later stage, i'm not sure if ceramics would hold.

There have been people who've posted on here that their surgeons wanted them to have all metal. Seems to be a surgeon's preference thing. I have a mixture of ceramic and metal and they all held through surgery and the subsequent elastics etc just fine.

FWIW I've noticed no difference whatsoever between the ceramic brackets and the metal. No staining (they're all self-ligating. I've had power chains which stain though); no difference in speed of movement; no difference in comfort; nothing.

I'm having them removed next month so I'll be able to report then if there's any difference in ease of removal :)

i went in initially thinking they were doing ceramic top and bottom.. well that was untill i was getting bonded and they told me they only dop ceramics on top.. so i have metal bottom ceramic tops :(

im a coffee hound so it kills my ligs immediately and i look like i have grimey teeth.. i just cant stay away from my coffee. if i could
do it again id go all metal. it cost me quite a bit more for the top ceramics and frankly it wasnt worth the money

I have clear SL brackets on top and they (as far as I can tell so far) do not stain. My ortho said they won't. I love coffee and mustard (not together-ewww!) and so far, so staining. I do brush my teeth right after though...just incase. Getting clear was only $200 more than metal. I love the clear, you can't even tell I'm wearing braces unless you're close up. I emailed a headshot picture of myself to my aunt and she couldn't even tell I was wearing braces!

Updating as promised (having been de-braced today  ).

As with everything else, no difference whatever. The ceramic brackets popped off just as easily as the metal ones.
