Surgery

#1 Post by traintrackmama »

Hi, I'm new to the board, but after reading over some of the posts-- am so glad I found it.

I never realized how many people were out there in my same shoes.

I am having orthognathic surgery. I have an impacted canine we are trying to bring down and then i will be ready for surgery. That's all we're waiting on. They're going to be bringing my top jaw forward 4 mm, and my bottom jaw back 4 mm.

Anyone had something similar?

Welcome to the forums traintrackmama.

I haven't had my surgery yet but they will be moving my upper jaw forward and my lower jaw back a little too. I have a severe underbite (that I hate :). I won't know how much they are moving each jaw until my pre-op appointment. I will be having my surgery in July. I literally cannot wait for my surgery - I've been waiting almost a year since my braces were put on but in total probably about 15 years since I started getting the underbite, so it's been a long time coming for me...

Good luck!

I am in the same boat. I am nearly 23, but have had an underbite for as long as I can remember. It wasn't until middle school I started to get ridiculed and picked on. "Bull Dog", etc.

I had a pre-op back in October and he estimated surgery for this upcoming summer. However, my previous orthodontist had said I was ready for surgery while the oral surgeon said another- like I said, just waiting on this canine to come down. And yesterday, after my orthodontist appointment- my temporary bracket came off the impacted tooth! I have an appointment today for the OS to take a look, and then-do it again! Oh boy! I am so ready. I have had my braces 2 years this June. I didn't ahve my tooth exposure surgery until Dec of 2010... Although it had been scheduled for March of 2010... But we got pregnant (yay!) and so they couldn't do general anesthesia like they needed to. So, had to wait til baby was born- which post-poned everything for nearly a year :(
