My journey

#1 Post by diegorgeous »

Hey guys,
Very excited to be starting my journey to correct my teeth and get that perfect smile i've always wanted. My problem is bimaxilliary protrusion. Basically my profile is too protruded + i already have full lips and i'm sure my protrusion makes things look even fuller. Everything needs to be pushed back. I will be extracting 4 first premolars. I will be documenting my journey. I am going to be braced on March 30th. Can't wait. I am being treated by Dr Asif Chatoo from London Lingual Orthodontics. Estimated time 18-24 months...but he's hoping more towards the 18-20 hehe. I hope it's smooth!! In the meantime, i'm enjoying foods i know i wouldn't be able to enjoy soon  . I wonder at what point my teeth will be extracted and how long the gap will take to close. That's what concerns me the most. i want them to be extracted ASAP.

Good luck with your treatment.

I also have full lips and a protruded profile, and my results have been amazing. My facial shape has completely changed, and I look much better.

All the best.

Getting braced tomorrow morning by Dr Chatoo of London Linguals. I think i'm getting upper and lower installed at once. So excited + anxious :jump: . My journey to my million dollar smile begins tomorrow :-* . I hope it's not too painful.
I've already gotten loads of soup for the rest of the week. Gotta buy a water pik, sonicare tootbrush and maybe wax?

Just got my upper brackets installed. Wasn't bad. Lowers go on in 2 weeks .then all first premolars are extracted. Yayy that's when the real change starts to happen because my problem is protrusion, not really crowding.
Feels a bit weird in my mouth. Getting a slight headache.I also have a slight lisp with some words. The wire he put in seems really thin. He said they are mainly going to loosen teeth and get them moving a bit. Finally :D

Hi diegorgeous! Congrats on getting started! I'm getting my linguals tomorrow, so we're starting this process almost at the same time :D I am really nervous for mine, mainly about speech. You've now been on them for a little bit, how's your speech doing?
Congrats again, you sound so positive about the process! Good for you

Hi!! Thanks....it's been an interesting experience  . I'm happy to shave started. Getting them on isn't too bad...just uncomfortable having your mouth open for so long. My speech is slightly lispy with my 's' especially. I think its worse when i'm actually thinking about it. Hopefully it gets better within the next couple of weeks. The experience so far has been fine. My molars aren't meeting anymore because he put some glue on the bottom of my top ones to prevent them from hitting the bottom brackets when they get installed. so eating is a little difficult. Also my teeth are aching/hurting a bit. I had the worst headache all day yesterday after getting them installed. The headache is gone but now my teeth hurt slightly. Certain teeth just start randomly feeling uncomfortable. Its not that painful though. Just a little uncomfortable. I actualyl have a really thin wire right now...........i wonder if to expect any visible movement hmmmm.
I'm sure you will be fine. I was expecting it to be worse.
I get 4 premolar extractions and a thicker wire in May ......hope i'm not in too much pain then  : D

What is your treatment plan like???

I was told 18-24 months. Most time frames seem to be like this on average. Some people are less and others more

That's great that it's going better than you were expecting! I think the pain will tolerable for me if it's a lot of headache type pain because I get really severe migraines and am usually able to power through them!
I'll set up a profile with my treatment plan one of these days lol but basically my ortho says 2 years, 2 and a half tops, with the linguals. I'm getting top and bottom Incognito to treat just about every problem you can have  My ortho says if I were a potato chip flavour I'd be "all-dressed"--thanks ortho  !! I have an overbite in which my top teeth completely cover my lowers, some crowding on top and bottom, with my top left lateral incisor rotated pretty far outward, and one baby tooth (my top right canine) that needs to come out and have the adult tooth surgically "revealed" (I think that was the term??) about 6 months after I get the braces on. It's going to be a long 2 years!!!

Wish me luck tomorrow morning, I'll let you know how it goes :)

LOL @ what your ortho said about the potato chips flavor. Goodluck getting braced tomorrow  . I have started getting the tongue soreness people talk about, and my teeth are sore too!. It happens more when my mouth is dryish. . Maybe i need to just stick to liquids until i have no pain. What i'm worried about is, if the baby wire is causing me this much soreness I wonder what the thicker wire will do :| lol. I'm just praying it isn't bad when i get the bottoms installed. Are you getting both arches installed same time?

Starting my third day with the linguals! Getting them on was fine, but holyyyyy have these 2 days been agony! I got my tops and bottoms on, and full wire, and they are killing my tongue :( The tooth soreness I can manage with tylenol, but I am having a lot of trouble with the tongue. I don't want to scare you, but all of my problems are with the lowers and not the uppers. My tongue gets caught on them and I have so many sores along the sides and bottom of my tongue from the lower linguals. My speech is fine when I can muster up the courage to use my tongue and speak, but it hurts my tongue so badly to talk that I avoid it at all costs!! I think I am going to post a question on how to deal with this tongue problem. I haven't used wax yet because I figured I'd let my tongue build up a resistance to the braces, but maybe that is foolish of me...So yeah, my only problem so far is the tongue. Teeth are sore but I am just trying to keep myself medicated for that lol
How are yours doing??

It's been about 2 weeks since i got my upper linguals fitted. I got a tiny wire, he said this was just to loosen up teeth. I haven't seen any movement yet. The first week was really hard!!! my tongue hurt like crazy and talking was not good at all lol....i'm so glad the pain disappeared after about day 7 and I'm back to speaking 100% normally.
Part 2 starts tomorrow .i get my lowers fitted. I'm worried about it because i'm dreading the pain and not being able to talk again. I go on vacation next week wednesday and lisping is the last thing i'll be needing during my vacay
I wonder if he's going to change the upper wire now since my teeth should have loosened up in the 2 weeks :?: i can't wait for things to start moving.
I get all my first premolars out once I get back from my vacation (around may 2nd ish). I'm taking all 4 of them out at once...scary I know....but i want to just get it over and done with !!! . .. and i know for a fact from around then on i'll be getting a thicker wire for the real movement to start. I'm expecting big big changes because i'm taking out all 4 premolars and pushing my teeth back (top and bottom) so i expect a very significant change in my profile and the lower half of my face. Can't wait :-*
I'm so glad about linguals...i'd never have considered labial braces !!! It's amazing how invisible they are . And hopefully time flies right by

I just got my bottoms installed. Seemed much easier than the first time (top arch)..and talking is almost perfect. About 95%. Doesn't feel too bad either, i can just feel them in my mouth a lot..weird. i'm dreading the next few days when the pain begins...
No wire change on top. I still have the tiny wires. My next appointment is June 8th. I get all my first premolars extracted about a week before (June 1st or so). Can't wait, because after that is when i start seeing changes :-*

My tongue is so sore omg...i have trouble sleeping at night  . Can't wait for the week to fly by. My speech on the other hand is not noticably different. It's about 99%..... so i'm happy about that.
I have found medication that helps a lot with the teeth pain, so happy about tht too :-* .
