For those who have been de-braced or are about to be...

How far in advance did your ortho provide you with a de-brace date? A couple of weeks? A month? Two months?

Hi! I just had an adjustment today, and my ortho told me I'll have one last adjustment in three weeks, and then the next visit after that I'll get them off. He'd been giving me a vague estimate of "late spring, early summer" for my last couple visits - today was the first time he actually said which appointment.

I was told at my adjustment last week that I'll be debanded on April 20th, exactly 4 weeks in advance. Woo-hoo!!

I was told 4 weeks ago that I was "close." When I came in today, my ortho said my braces were ready to come off!!! :jump: She debands only once a month, and the next debanding date is April 13 so I will have mine off in less than 2 weeks!!! Next week I will have a bonded retainer put on the bottom teeth, and the following week the braces are gone!!!! :D

I think most orthos are deliberately vague on when the braces will come off so they don't give their patients false hopes.

I also think that they just don't know until all the tweaking is finally done.. I think they always have hopes that certain things will happen within a certain time frame, but until tweaks are all finally accomplished, they can't say.

I was curious, are you getting your bonded retainer in while you have your bottom braces still in? Sounds like you'll have both for a week?

It was a total shock for me when I got my debracing date yesterday - in 9 weeks!! I thought I have a least 4 months ahead for me, and since I love my braces, I was ok with that. Not so, next time I am seeing her, they are going off!

So your teeth are completely done? They just want to hold them in your braces for a period? Seems like orthos do things differently b/c some people have gotten their braces off as soon as the teeth were finished.

I'm curious, did they do xrays recently?

Vas - I'm getting the bonded retainer on the bottom teeth this coming Friday and getting debraced the following Wednesday. So yes, I'll have both for a few days, which makes sense to me, I don't want to give my teeth any opportunity to move again. This was my second AND LAST time in braces!!!

Bookfairy and Clangjr - I have to admit I kinda love my braces, too. I am so glad I spent the time and money to do this. But I can't wait to get them off!!! Just 8 more days!!!!
