PHOTO OF MY TEETH! About to get braces off, need your advice

#1 Post by alignment »

Hi guys!

I'm nearing my last appointment and am a bit stressed out about the alignment of my teeth. I was hoping you could give me your imput. I just uploaded my photo to imgur but this message board says I'm unable to submit photos or urls :( how can i show you guys my teeth??

So I think the canine on the right side of the photo is much too high. My ortho disagrees and just made a "step" adjustment today to move the lateral incisor on the right side of the picture higher in order to match the canine on the right. I thought I was crazy so I uploaded this photo and I'm pretty sure that the lateral incisor on the right (next to the middle teeth) is already high enough.

I'm stressed and worried that moving it higher is going to make it look like I have buck teeth. I want to go back and tell her to remove the step and bring down the canine - she said she won't bring down the canine in today's appointment but maybe after I should her this photo she'll change her mind.

Help!!

Wow! You have a grid and everything. I think it's the gum and not the tooth at the top, so bringing it down further may make it level on the bottom but not the top. Could make the one on the right look longer than the left.

I wouldn't bother doing anymore because I think they look excellent.

Okay you guys, I really appreciate the compliments on the teeth, but I personally don't like how they're still uneven so I would love some advice about how to talk to my orthodontist about straightening them properly, you can see by the grid how uneven they are.

I agree, I think that it's the gum. You could get a procedure called a gingivectomy. That's where they cut away part of your gum. Also I think that your head may have been tilted in the picture. You shouldn't worry so much. Your teeth look great.

I do worry too much. It's a problem... but I would like to get this resolved as it's causing me a lot of stress.

So which gum are you guys talking about?

I can assure you my head isn't tilted in the picture... and even if it was tilted, the front two teeth are lined up to the grid and so are the front four teeth to the horizontal line above, so even if my face is crooked, the photo of the teeth is not! :)

You need to talk to your Ortho about it if you are so stressed out. In the picture your teeth look good, but maybe it's not the best angle to see the problem you are talking about.

I am trying to talk to my ortho and she says the lateral incisor needs to be moved up and that the canine has no room to move down. I'm actually sending her this photo right now.

I don't know what other angle I can take the photo - I think it's clearly visible what my issue is...

Obviously - you think the issue is obvious, but so far no one on this board does. So, either the angle isn't good on your photo or you are extremely picky. They are your teeth - you need to talk to your Ortho - not go crazy on this board looking for people to agree with you.

That's kind of a rude thing to say to someone who has come to a board where you look for support.

I am completely open to people telling me I'm wrong if there's a reason to tell me I'm wrong. "Looks great" doesn't mean they disagree with me, it just means my teeth look fine.

I was intrigued by the comments about the gums and if anyone could explain that further I'd be interested in hearing it.

If you're paying to have your teeth fixed for cosmetic reasons, you are necessarily "too picky".
