Which Sonicare and waterpik to get?

I'm newly braced and it seems like some definite staples are the sonicare and waterpik. Which model of the sonicare do you recommend and which brand/model waterpik? I know nothing about either one!

Hi I wish someone would answer this as am keen to know the answer myself , think from what I have read all of the sonicare would be good , with the waterpik the cordless one does not seem to get as many good reviews, think I will get the waterpik spam which boots uk do for 49 pound .

Wow, I haven't even heard of Sonicare before this forum! I have a Oral-B electronic toothbrush, is the Sonicare better? And my ortho also suggested a waterpik for more thorough cleaning... looks like I'll be blowing a good amount of money on this whole braces business sigh.

I realize this is old but I thought I would chime in with the Sonicare and Waterpik I use.

I use the Waterpik Ultra, as many people have suggested here in the Dental Do-Dads forum. I just got it in the mail today, and it seems to work well. It's loud, but it does the job.

I've had the Sonicare Flexcare for two or three years. It's got a lot of different modes, and while they are nice to have on occasion, I pretty much only use one mode all of the time. My guess is the much cheaper version without all of the settings works just as well.

Another nice thing about the Flexcare one is that it came with a UV brush head sterilizer attached to the charging base, along with a smaller travel charger. Don't know if any of the other versions have that included.

I just purchased an additional Sonicare Diamondclean toothbrush because it comes with a charging travel case. The toothbrush charges right in the case, via a USB cord, so I will be able to toss this in my purse and charge it through my laptop. I'll keep the Flexcare toothbrush at home. Haven't had the Diamondclean delivered yet, but I hear good things about it.

I also have the Waterpik Ultra. I used to have the Waterpik Cordless Plus, however the charging nodes became corroded and eventually wouldn't allow me to charge it even though I cleaned them. Cordless wasn't nearly as consistent with the power of the stream, and the speed switch broke. So i was never really sure what speed it was set on. Also I was unsure of how long to charge it because there are no times specified and no indicator light. The regular counter top model works perfect for me and is exactly what I wanted.

Also, I have never figured out why people feel they need electric toothbrushes with braces, maybe it's to make it seem easier and encourage brushing. I feel like my Colgate 360 does an awesome job, plus electric toothbrushes are bulky in your mouth, and I have a tiny one.

I got my electric toothbrush long before I got braced, and I can say it makes my teeth many, many times cleaner than regular manual brushing. It doesn't matter how careful I am or how long I brush with a regular toothbrush. The electric one just gets my teeth cleaner.

I had a cleaning for the first time in a few years and the hygenist was amazed at how little build up I had. I told her I use a sonicare and she was like "yep, that's why!".

I also agree that some electric toothbrushes are bulky. I am not a fan of the oral-b ones in general. But the sonicare ones feel like the same size as a regular toothbrush. They actually offer an even smaller version too. I have a teeny tiny mouth (I need to have surgery to make it bigger!) and I have no problem using either the regular sonicaare head or the smaller sonicare head.

Of course, I know lots and lots of people love their regular toothbrushes too. But when I don't have access to my sonicare I can really tell the difference.

I use the waterpik 900 and it comes with an electric toothbrush as well! They work great!
