I am grinding the heck out of my teeth, which I belive is due to the overbite and since my overbite appears to be similiar to yours I am wondering if you also have this problem?
They say it is never too late and with just 21 easy broke payments (lol) its looks like the time is now.
Hi, Goin4it,
Good to know you are on the straightening path )). 43 is not too old there are people much older than you on this board.. Congratulations!
No i usually would not grind my teeth. I started to do that after I got braces since my bite feels off and to distract from pain sometimes. It does not hurt anymore though.
My braces were put around the beginning of november.
Thanks for the support RedDress I really appreciate it.
I am still having the "What am I thinking" moments but then I try and get to the "Hey, who do I have to impress, this is for me"
I am that much closer today as I had all my xrays & molds done yesterday so now I just wait for Jan 11 to arrive .
I must say, I think this forum is great for sharing personal experiences and preparing us for what is to come ahead.

The toughest part in the whole process is to find the ortho that you trust to bring real improvement. Once that done - you are fine.
There are people here that are over 60 and got braces because fixing bite is still safer and cheaper then fixing your teeth, venieers, implants and so on.
Just make sure your ortho knows what he is doing.
I noticed you got your braces around the same time as my daughter and I. I'm 42 and also have braces on upper and lower. We both got them just after Thanksgiving.
There seems to be a lot of improvement in your bite already lucky you! I need to remember to take pics. and start a blog on this site. It's just good to know there's someone else here I can relate to.
thanks for stopping by.
I have not much going on now. Except I have elastics.
I am still very dissapointed with my ortho who keeps shifting my teeth all down by making my smile even gummier. What is worse, he keeps shifting them up and down, so in the end they all go down more.
I required them to redo one bracket since it was too high and the tooth (right upper lateral incisor) was too low as a result. They redid the bracket, and the tooth moved up (and the teeth next to it moved down) .... And then, yesterday they put the sure smile wire that they made based on the scan that was done 2 weeks before the tooth moved up, and as a result, this damn wire shifted the poor down again. As a result, the incisor next to this tooth is already hanging down lower than the other, and it was higher than the other before the treatment.
I cannot login under Reddress and cannot post pictures though. there were some changes on this forum a while ago and since then I never was able to log in.
Hope you are doing better.

How do you like your SureSmile wires? I just got wire #3 out of 5 yesterday. I started SS at about the year and a half mark. My ortho felt we could get a better end result with SS. So far so good!
It depends on your ortho's professionalism.
I did not have great experience with SS. They change the position of the bracket and had to rescan. They rescanned right after they change the position of the bracket. They ordered ss wire on the basis of that scan. In two weeks I got that wire, but my right lateral incisor moved up like it should. Now that wire pushing it back down. Up and down movement is bad for your roots I believe. The problem with the whole ss wire is they have to rely on some model which is not necessarily accurate. Imagine they do something like IPR or change the position of the bracket, or anything. The model will not reflect it. So you have to have your teeth rescanned. And then wait. And then... so ...
Just a side note:
I realized that self-ligating braces are not great in "fine movements" of the teeth, especially rotating them. It took a really thick wire for my lower tooth to rotate. self-ligs just do not have a grip on the wire good enough, the wire is just loose inside. So my advice to all - go with ligs.
I have been in braces for about 9 months now. And I lost 15 pounds at least. This is a lot for me, since I am only 5'4 and have very wide bones (if you think you have wide bones, I bet mine are wider, my hands are almost same size as my husbands and my feet are wider then his)
I wore pants of size 4p or 6P and now I wear 0-00P. When I go shopping and somebody offers help I ask to bring me whatever smallest size they have. unbelievable.
I swear, I eat everything. Today I ate
crunchy honey oats for breakfast
fish sandwitch in a toasted bun for lunch
a big burger with grilled veg and an ear of corn for dinner. I do not cut anything in small pieces. I just bite everything. No change in diet.
Six month has passed and nothing changed. Elastics did not do anything good, exept pushed my lower jaw upfront so I have now a bulldogy profile. My ortho changed my wire last time 6 months ago. I I guess he is just waiting for my money that comes regularly. I have new TADs placed today. We decided on some kinda new treatment plan, took us, or rather him 2 months to settle this plan:
first I come to talk to him "about my concerns"
a month later I come again, to listen to his plan, and I agree. he tells me to come in another two weeks "cause then the new wire is ready"
I come in 16 days, no new wire. they placed this TADs. No new wire. His associate asks me: so what are your concerns?
Ok... let me order the wire for you...
come back in 3 weeks!
I am not after this god for saken wire. I just feel they drain my money and do NOTHING. And what 's more, they just have no idea...
Your story is just brilliant - there aren't many which detail the process of non extraction for Class 2 overjet in adults, and have found all your posts so informative for my own decisions. My 12 year old daughter is currently about 5 months into non extraction treatment for the very same overjet, but is in non self ligating brackets, for the very reasons you detail. Her orthodontist said exactly the same about the wire being too loose in the bracket for fine detailing. He really feels very strongly about the use of self ligating brackets, saying that they should only ever be used for a very select group of patients Hers is currently coming together very well with powerchains and elastics, but she has the advantage of still growing I know.
I too am planning orthodontics for my own overjet/bite this next month, am just trying to plan the finance so that am not paying two sets of fees at the same time. I will be following your story closely as it will mirror my own so much - I too am not going to have extractions.
Thanks so much sharing - keep us posted with your progress wont you!
